For years now I've thought that Pulp's input from 1988 and 1993 was similar to the Happy Mondays? A lot of songs from this era of Pulp have a Happy Monday feel to them e.g. the album version of Countdown and the Vince Clarke remix of Wrote for Luck, His N Hers and Bob's Yer Uncle and Lipgloss and Kinky Afro.

Pulp and the Happy Mondays were both small bands in the mid 80s, and their sound definitely became more similar as they were both influenced by rave culture around 1988, so does anyone know if the two bands ever crossed paths or if they were influenced by one another?

I know Shaun Ryder was on stage with Pulp at T in the Park in 1996 looking high as a kite and hes talked about Jarvis/Pulp in those remember the 90s documentaries, other than that, no idea

Hmmm. I get what you mean about the Wrote for Luck remix but personally I think that version and Countdown are just very of their time. I think Countdown really owes more to Momus (see A Complete History of Sexual Jealousy) and Giorgio Moroder than anything else. Steve and Jarv featured Kinky Afro in their DJ sets now and then and Sean and Kermit (I think) were on stage at T in the Park '96 so they were friendly but apart from that, not sure...

Bez, Rowetta, Jarvis and Candida were on Bargain Hunt together

I like both bands a lot, but I don't hear any similarities in their music.  I saw Happy Mondays, Black Grape and Pulp live this year.

That written, I remember hearing James Seven LP back in the mid 1990s and thinking that had elements of Pulp and Happy Mondays.
