Yeah, sorry, I meant to do a proper write-up of that evening. Paul mentioned it and I think in the next sentence said that "at midnight, it will be Steve's birthday" so it was a sombre moment.
Two other mortality tidbits from that night that I don't think were mentioned here. Mr Burgess read an email that Jarvis had sent him that morning from Mexico saying (to paraphrase) "Sorry, I can't be there for your launch tonight. Thank you for making something beautiful out of what was a very difficult period in my life".
And later in the evening Candida was asked about her Pulp-hiatus life with her training as a counsellor mentioned. She said that she went to counselling in the first place for herself as she didn't feel that she knew herself. Which is a brave but very relatable thing to say to a group of people.
Some more info. Pat was 55, and he and Jo had just celebrated their 40th anniversary. There really should have been more, it's a tragedy they didn't reach their 60th - 55 is absolutely no age.
Ah, I am so sorry to hear this. Absolutely love that video. My favourite video. That is awful news. Far too young.
Nice words from Jarvis and Candida re the Hardcore book, Eamonn. I'd wondered what drew Candida to counselling when I'd read in later years that she'd trained in it.
