What is it? Was gonna go see it but unless the wealthy get jam flung on their fine clothing, not sure I'll bother. Pulp would help, mind.

Rosamund's Pike character - formerly a 90s It-Girl modelled on oh-so-many double-barrelled Primrose Hill residents - says that people thought Common People was written about her, and insists this is not the case ("I barely knew Jarvis!" "She came from Greece, and had a thirst for knowledge! I've never wanted to know anything!"

The film looks very pretty, starts off well but has one of the most ridiculous and stupid third acts I've ever seen. Ultimately it says nothing substantive about anything, let alone class (unsurprising as the writer/director went to public school then Oxford and is the heiress to a jewellery fortune). It also has some of the most balls-to-the-wall graphic out-of-pocket shit I've seen, which probably means I haven't watched enough films. The cast is good - Jacob Elordi excellent as the Oxbridge yah, Pike and Richard E Grant are probably the best thing in the film - I don't quite buy Barry Keoghan in his role, he's good at sinister but he doesn't quite convince enough for what the film wants him to do.

oof. yay for pulps' enduring influence in pop culture but thanks for the review. i actually know someone who is planning to go see it w/ her FAMILY which seems questionable??? but it looks fun i will prob still see it. also not surprising re: lack of solid class critique sadly many who get to really succeed in creative industries come from big time money

Just saw this, yeah not 100% convincing but definitely the most fun I've had in a cinema in a long time, and if you enjoy seeing bad things happen to upper class people then it may be for you.

The Common People story made me do a genuine lol

Watched it last night. Shades of A Triangle Of Sadness, in its main theme, I thought.

Yeah, the "scandalous" scenes seemed to add little more than shock-value. I was surprised Oliver Quick didn't mount Rosamund Pike's character at the end. Surprised it got away with a 15's cert too but maybe Emerald's dad knows someone at the Censorship office.

Yes I couldnt help by giggle at the kind of bland reference to Pulp. I reallllly wanted to like it because Jacob Elordi who played Felix is from Brisbane and my partners Mum and his mum know each other. But for me it just didnt land at all. The dance at the end was not a winner for me. It seems to be when you want quirky someone breaks out into a dance routine soundtracked to a song that might seem ironic? And Richard E Grant who I adore is now doing what Bill Nighy does.
