Posted this elsewhere but thought it might deserve a thread of its own.
So an act called The Churnups have been added to the Pyramid bill and speculation is growing its Pulp. One Twitter account has pointed out the link between churn and pulp! However, Nick has just denied all knowledge of that. But its been pointed out that theres a TBA for the Park stage on the Sat. I reckon thats going to be Pulp.
The Sun reporting that Pulp are playing a set at the Woods stage 6pm Saturday. Sorry for linking to the rag but it seems to be where the story has broken:
No need to click. And maybe no need to believe. Nick has refuted it (without denying it) on Twitta.
There are already huge stars across the line-up for Glastonbury, but I can reveal two more will be appearing at the festival this weekend.
Ive learned both Pulp and Hozier will play secret sets at the Woodsies stage which is the new name given to what was previously called the John Peel Stage.
Sheffield legends Pulp will play an hour-long show from 6pm on Saturday.
It will be the first time Jarvis Cockers band will have played the festival in more than a decade.
Hozier who last played the festival in 2019 kicks off at 7.30pm on Friday.
A source said: Every year Glastonbury likes to keep fans on their toes and this year is no different.
Checking tickets yesterday at Ped Gate C. Two customers came through, and my keen eye caught their address ** Lyndhurst Grove.
They knew the song, they've met Jarvis and will be watching them on Saturday. What are the chances of me checking tickets of people who live on Lyndhurst Grove .
Just on my final shift now, I'm free at two for the rest of the festival
Im sure most of us will be glued to the TV sets by 6pm tomorrow to find out, the tensions certainly rising as is the number of butterflies in my stomach
I hope Nick's not going to get in trouble from the PR police again. Presumably the Woodsie's story is true as none of these things seem to manage to be very secret. If so, didn't they cause chaos last time and the Park stage had to be closed off when 30,000 people were crammed in, so won't a tent be asking for trouble?? I'm sure a nice "intimate" huge tent will be nice for those that get in and everything. Not that I would ever go near a festival as they sound like hell. I was hoping they'd do a 1995, replace the headliner, then they could've had the Monkeys on for a guest song or two, something Sheffieldy like Mardy Bum and Jarvis could've sung it for them (in a Sheffield accent, not a Los Alto Verde one). Alex could still play the guitar.
Jarvis has been there every year since forever! So odd if they dont. Wonder if hes there but doesnt want to play. True story: I got into Steves stag do, held in the Tipi Field in 09 after Jarviss solo set.
Actually that rings a bell re: Steve's stag do, must've read it on here before. Bet it was an amazing experience!
Wouldn't surprise me at all if they were there, Jarvis especially - sure he'll be dossing around somewhere. Perhaps on stand-by if any acts have to pull out. Genuinely expected they'd show up somehow this year though - if I'd actually gone, I'd be a bit gutted.
Now. There is a tba at the Nowhere stage at 12 which supposedly has been extremely secret because it's a big name. Going to have a look just in case. It's generally a dance stage so Pulp prob unlikely but may as well have a look!

Nick's tweet of "Any road, Im sure theres always another time yeah??" is interesting, maybe they're planning to be on the road sporadically longer than we think?

The last reunion was over 2 years.

This year was my ninth Glastonbury (first was 2007) and I'm still yet to see Pulp there.
It was really great this year. Elton was magical despite the fact I was extremely tired having arrived on the Monday. There were many highlights but one other stand out artist was Manneskin.
Pulp's omission was bizarre, I was so, so certain they'd be there but I'm sure there was good reason. I feel they were intending to play (Nick's earlier Tweets, tour gap, the fact Jarvis appears every year) but something we can't know about happened to prevent it from becoming reality.
I feel the most likely probability is that they were writing their world tour schedule and have decided that Glastonbury 2024 will be their swan song. Another possibility is that there simply wasn't a suitable space on the lineup; the festival has been criticised in recent years for overcrowding when artists have played stages that are too small. Meanwhile Pulp will really want to play in the dark for maximum impact for what could be their last Glasto gig (e.g. Sorted for Es and Whizz).
These factors mean that they are very much limited to which slots and stages they could appear in. It also explains the tweet "somewhere... In a field in Glastonbury"; were they trying to find a suitable place at that point?
I mean, it's amazing thinking about the songs they could play. Not really a mid-reunion tour event, they were very lowkey and surprise last time.
I would love it if they went all out - Pyramid Stage, played all the hits (all the singles from Babies onwards, plus Underwear/I Spy/FEELING) and some of their best and most ambitious songs outwith that bracket. The only way Pulp are ever headlining Pyramid Stage again, let's be real, is if it's their final gig. And that would be a triumphant occasion; you'd be sure of a great turnout, and they certainly have the discography besides Common People/Disco 2000, time to really weaponise the slightly less massive but still prominent songs in their arsenal. Pulp have never actually done a gig longer than 15 songs or so at Glastonbury, and they've never put all their strongest songs together in one go, either.
Glastonbury surprise set this year? I'm sure they'll do it once more before bowing-out, but was thinking next year on the Pyramid stage. Though this one looks like it's Kasabian. Another consolation for not managing to get tickets.
Kasabian - Betting Suspended Pulp 6/4 Kings Of Leon 2/1 The Killers 3/1 Richard Hawley 3/1 Green Day 5/1 Weezer 5/1 Tame Impala 6/1 The Smile 6/1 Hot Chip 7/1 Vampire Weekend 8/1 Placebo 8/1 Interpol 8/1 Glass Animals 8/1 BAR 10/1
Yeah, I think Woodsies would be way too small for them, there'd be a hell of a crush. Did wonder if it'd be possible when I went last year but when I went up there (and narrowly avoided a Rickrolling) I just thought... nah.
Can't see any likely-looking gaps higher up the line-up, so I agree, probably next year. Although I'm invariably wrong.

Strong talk of Oasis reforming next year and headlining Glastonbury. If so, it would surely reduce the chances of Pulp doing the same? Although without a new/comeback "hit" maybe that was always unlikely and they would only be offered a different slot (Legends/headlining another stage).
Pulp being slow (that's a long reunion) at officially announce or just tease something new (album, if such thing is really the work / new songs that may or may not be part of their discography...) will certainly be overshadowed by an Oasis Reunion and them headlining at next year Glastonbury. Or maybe there's room for 2, I don't know. The Pulp fan I am is kind of frustrated / tired by the lack of official statement and by the secrecy around what's coming or not (I know mister Banks said there was no hope for more Pulp but with the 3 new songs and the studio Orbb rumors, eh, can the man be trusted?) Also I would understand them not to be part of the Britpop era comeback hype, that would make them the last band to return after, Suede, Blur, and now Oasis (definitely maybe or not). It would appear as something that has to be done, to surf the wave, and not something they really want to do. Wait and see, as always...

I dont see Pulp headlining Glastonbury unless Oasis have a big scrap the week before and a replacement is needed.
I think Pulp will headline the Other Stage next year and Oasis will be on the pyramid, hopefully not on the same day! I could be proved wrong at 8am tomorrow but I do feel Oasis might use Glasto as their first comeback gig of their tour. And with Pulp, I just can't see them not completing this tour cycle without a Glastonbury appearance, given how much Jarvis loves the festival and the connections he has. Emily Eavis gave an interview last month stating that 1995 was her favourite year of Glastonbury because Pulp and Oasis headlined... I really wouldn't be surprised if she already had them both booked when she gave that interview!
What would you think if Pulp supported Oasis at some of their stadium gigs?
Unlikely as Pulp could fill a stadium on their own. I think 45,000 were at Finsbury Park. It wouldn't bother me as I wont be going to see Oasis, but a treat for those that do go.
Seconding everyone else - not for Pulp to prop up Oasis! Pulp can do their own stadium gig!
On this subject it's immensely funny to me that Catfish and the Bottlemen who are already, let's face it, certainly not big enough (or good enough) for the London stadium gig they've got arranged are now going to have Oasis playing Wembley Stadium on the very same day. Oops!

Should be plenty of cheap tickets for Catfish & The Bottlemen Not sure I want to go back to Mordor again. I did it back in May, but it was very scary
I did see Catfish & The Bottlemen live at Electric Ballroom about a decade ago, and they were very good live. I must have been at least twice the age of everyone else there, I felt so old. And that was 10 years ago

Pulp fans don't want stadiums. Pulp fans want indoor sets with deep cuts and decent beer provision.
There were hour long queues for beer at Finsbury Park. And unless Razzmatazz counts as a deep cut that ticked none of the boxes, however it was the best gig I saw in 2023. Hammersmith Odeon did tick the indoor and deep cut boxes, but beer was a no-no from where I was squeezed in in the stalls. It was good, but I didnt enjoy it as much as Finsbury Park.
Hopefully Pulp, turn up in a field somewhere in the UK next summer.
Yeah, couldn't believe it when I saw that recently. You can become a stadium band now without any hits (unless I've missed Catfish blowing-up lately)?
I dont think newer bands have hits as such. I am off to see Last Dinner Party and Fontaines DC before end of year and neither have a hit, but both have sold out Hammersmith Odeon and Alexandra Palace respectively with Fontaines DC playing Finsbury Park next summer. However, I dont think Catfish & The Bottlemen are big enough to sell out the O2, though I could be wrong.
