That was pretty exciting to be part of, hearing stories.from Nick, Camdida and Mark. Brings so many memories back. Am I the only one to feel a little emotional ?
It was good. I didn't get to listen a long as I was at work but I've pretty much got a decent copy of the album etched into my internal music player anyway
Fantastic memories and stories from Nick and Zig. I've had to work all weekend at the laptop but reading their updates and the fact that the country/world is in lockdown has made it more bearable.
I found it pretty emotional, too! I missed the playalong itself but caught up with all their tweets late last night (though in a couple of cases it was hard to retrospectively work out which song some of the comments related to). It's lovely seeing how much Nick and Mark remember, especially when they interacted a little. Mark obviously still has an encyclopedic knowledge of Pulp's recordings and releases... and Nick has plenty of memorabilia!
I was thought it was lovely of Giles from AcrylicAfternoons to have tweeted so many quotes from Jarvis, taken from that event when Jarvis listened to John Peel's copy of the DC vinyl and provided his commentary on the record.
Yeah I thought Giles did a pretty decent job there myself. It was pretty touching stuff. I know Steve Mackey was asked to take part, but for whatever reason - that just didnt happen. As much as we all have so much to ask the lads and candida - it must be pretty daunting to have all these questions thrown at them from every single angle, and I totally get why so many questions didnt get answered.
I did notice how quick Nick was to comment at the end of the night how the band currently has no plans to make a return, but never say never. So pretty much the normal eh.
Loved the way that they had pics ready to post as they went along their commentary. Was all very professional (apart from Mark not labelling the songs he was talking about! Those reading back need to think for a sec as to which one is being discussed).
Some great insights by both though - interesting that FEELING CALLED LOVE was born from the remains of two different songs.
Funny that Mark and Nick were frantically typing thoughts on the same thing at the same time and would occasionally tweet each other. Best bit was them both posting separate pics of stuffed dolls of themselves sent by fans. Mark goes to Nick "You've got yours too!"
The photos I really liked were:
A young Webber in his bedroom when DC was being made. Turns out I live around the corner from where he did back then.
An early DC mixes compilation tape of Nick's. It contained a track called 'Micro Stop' which Scott quizzed him about. Likely a working title for something else, probably Mile End going by date (and Jarvis' false "Song ends...or does it?" before the violin outro of Mile End). Monday Morning was labelled as the easier to decipher 'Ska Song'.
A pic of the string section in Air Studios from summer '95 working on I Spy, Feeling and Something Changed, presumably. These are the type of things that would look great in a super deluxe edition of the album if a book was included.
Nick said they couldn't find any studio pics of the band from the time which is a shame.
Finally, the photo posted by someone associated with The Pastels, the Scottish band - a fantastic shot of someone's colorful living room filled with assorted indie musicians including most of Pulp from when they played Glasgow on their Babies tour in 1992.
Don't think it's Mile End, as that's already got a title on the tape. Perhaps it's PTA...?
Update: Yeah I'm pretty sure it's PTA. This tape looks like it comes from the first set of album sessions, which Sturdy's book and Mark's tweets from the weekend both describe as containing Pencil Skirt, Bar Italia, Monday Morning, Mile End and PTA.
