For those who have yet to hear the newest Jarv Is song performed live, check out the below video from Ibiza the other night (jump to 02:30 to skip the technical issues and preamble including the naming of a palm tree). Lovely to watch him perform surrounded in colour and brightness rather than a dark concert hall - it kinda reminds me of a Saturday-morning kids TV show with mock-up scenery.
I think this is the most accessible, exciting thing he's written probably this side of the Millennium *
Some proper synth and keyboard action that will surely delight anyone for whom Pulp 1992/93 reigns supreme, a synth-transition part recycled from Death II, heartbreaking minor-sounding violin in the chorus with soaring strings, a beat with an instant groove and lyrics and vocal delivery in classic Cocker pathos. Inventive bridge and overall song structure too. I think it's astounding and the one most likely to win him unlikely fans.
Ian Clark's the man for lyric transcribing (a few lines here are muffled but it's mostly clear), but have a watch and a few listens, I think you'll love it:
* I may have said this about Girls Like It Too and Discosong a decade ago but what's the point of being a fan if you can't get a bit giddy every so often, right? Face it. You are young etc.
