I'd say the complete Island demos, but I don't know if they're circulating. Since Happy Endings is circulating, maybe the rest is also?

"The Demo" Separations demos, and, well, all subsequent unreleased demos really (as well as the earlier, unreleased ones).

The full concert of Bath 1982 where the (great quality) version of "...Crabs.." came from, The Day That Never Happened video, footage of We Can Dance Again from the Prince's Trust performance in 1994 and a live recording of the group playing in Venice at their first post TIH show in 1999.

The '89 demo.
200% & bloody thirsty - demo.
And there are many other others for sure that i can't recall right now.
An 'it' era live show if any exist?
Ah yes, the Saskia demo, i know someone who has this, I'll look into it.

Details about practice recording here at the bottom of the page: https://pulpwiki.net/Pulp/RecordingSessions

Details of the Saskia demo here: https://pulpwiki.net/Jarvis/OtherMusicalProjects

Jason - would be amazing if you could get hold of the Saskia demo! I've never heard it but always imagined it'd be a nice way to round out an expanded version of It, as it's largely the same band and they used to play When You Cry I Cry in the live set.

That damn Dolebusters video... someone must have a copy! I don't know if there's anything live from 1983 but that would be lovely. And the rough mix of Freaks too.

Isn't the rough mix of Freaks the actual released version?

I get very confused trying to untangle what happened with the different mixes of Freaks. But there is another mix of it that Mark Webber has on cassette, with sound effects linking the tracks. That version of Master of the Universe with handclaps is an earlier mix than the one that's on the album.

I see.
So, not much of a chance getting a copy of Webber's tape of this then?
Or any of his other tapes.
That said, he did used to be quite open to swaps back in the day.

Mark, was it Mark you spoke to at the beginning of the reunion about possible legacy/reissue ideas? If he's still interested, you'd imagine he'd be the best Pulp curator for anything new that celebrates the old.

Yeah, Webber was hoping to add a few things to the archive with a view to possible reissues. No reissues happened though, and i got the strong impression it was Universal's call, not the band's.

I think i did at one point quietly raise the subject of getting to see / hear some of the bits he has, and it was quietly ignored! Not gonna hassle him about it now.

I agree. Also the Rotherham Demo and the remainder of the Spice Demo would be nice

Oh, so many things I'd love to hear and see:

  • The Rotherham demo
  • 'The Heat of the Day' from the Spice demo (and Sink or Swim if that's not the version included on the 2012 reissue of 'It')
  • Live recording from the gig at Bath University on 16 January 1982
  • Live recording from the gig at The Limit on 13 April 1982
  • The 'Dolebusters '85' video
  • The 'Death Goes to the Disco' music video
  • The video of 'The Day That Never Happened'
  • The unreleased songs from the Wessex demos
  • The unreleased songs from the Depot demos

If I had to pick one, though, I'd have to go for the Rotherham demo; I'm a sucker for early Pulp, and based on the descriptions in 'Truth and Beauty', these tracks sound like they'd be right up my street!

Ah, yes the 'Maureen' video.
I've seen this (about a thousand years ago) and if memory serves I'm sure it was b & w.
And the audio was the Sudan Gerry version.

The Limit club.
I think it was either Russell or Jarvis who would bring their new videos and Paul the dj would play them.
They suffocate at night was often played too.

I think that the Sudan Gerri version is the best version, the other one just seems to lose some of the song's energy

Agreed - much like how Live On failed miserably on the FON recording, yet on the Goodier session it was fucking amazing.
