Jamie Smith does indeed need to get the tape into an auction. An assortment of us have, at various points, offered to buy it off him, but he never responds. An actual auction may be the only way this happens - if he ever does pull his finger out!

Has anyone else tried to chat with Jamie about this? I know myself, Jason and Sturdy have. I don't believe he's ever responded, even when just a tracklist has been offered. (Not that one would be too hard to work out!)

Let's keep an eye out. I'm sure a group of us could purchase it if it ever did emerge.

And, Jason - I don't come here for ages, and find a holy grail being let out. How very Pulp, tho - you haven't even given it its own thread! A reward for the regular readers, then :)

Initially, Jamie was responsive when i first enquired about the tape but that came to nothing.
I really hope it does surface, as for it's potential value at auction?
Who knows?

The value of the concert is really going to be down to those who bid for it. Its going to be so hard to put a price to such a rare piece of history. At the same time, I dont want to be having a gun held to our head as ransom for this. I hope we are able to get this, and not be outbid or outdone by some greedy person who has no agenda for bidding compared to the genuine fan like us.

Might be an odd suggestion, but if 'ransom', greedy agenda or dodgy practices are real concerns, maybe discussions about teaming up to win this auction on the public forum is not the best place.

We don't want the competition knowing our strategy?

Paul Burgess has notified on Facebook of a new assortment of Pulp demos/mixes on Omega auctions. A bit more meat on this collection. Of most interest would possibly be what seems to be a recording of the 1997 Barbican performance (presumably an improvement on the young Surdy's tentative dictaphone efforts), the original Lipgloss demo and rough mixes of Hardcore material (Party Hard without the vocoder effect!).

Although probably not worth the £120 the bidding currently stands at (happy to chip in, we can share weekend custody of the tapes etc.). Auction ends tomorrow:

Just to update, three of us on the FB page have expressed interest in a joint bid including Mr Burgess. I floated the idea that the largest contributor keeps the tapes and they/someone converts to digital files for the rest of us. Would have to move fast. I guess I'd be willing to pay up to £30.

Oh wow, such treasure!

And would be able to digitize them, if you can't Scott - I did the recent recording of the Dolebusters cassette rereleased via Sheffield Tape Archive, and the London Astoria '94 recording released via Ian's FEELINGCALLEDLIVE site, if you want to hear how they turned out.

I'll chip in too. I have access to a pro quality tape deck and a 24 bit digital recorder so could help with the transfer too if needed.

By the way, I think the Barbican tape is the 'In C' performance from 1998. Terry Riley wasn't involved with the La Monte Young tribute that I expertly captured on my top quality mini cassette dictaphone...

Ah, didn't realise there were 2 sets. The second looks like it's by far the more interesting, although of course who knows till we can hear it.

There's also this, but I think the Pulp content is just the standard Razzmatazz EP tracks...
