Does anyone have the full V96 recording? The one that includes "Help the Aged". This definitely exists because I can remember having it before and the bit where Jarvis sings "Can't run away from yourself" has another line after it before he starts singing the chorus.
Thanks for the link Eamonn, I hadn't seen the video before and it's definitely an interesting early version.
Jason - thanks for checking, I've found my CDR of the broadcast but can't find the other one I had which was an audience recording of the full set. If I do, I'll upload it because the extra songs are great too.
What I notice with the early live version, and the actually 1998+ setlists, is that the song actually doesnt differ that much. The middle part where (I presume Antony Genn) holds the note for a few seconds before kicking into the chorus seems a little different, but in all honesty to say that the song got released something like 15 months later, it makes me feel that the actual album version is a bit of a let down considering how the lyrics / riffs / chords were in this video.
I can see where you're coming from, I guess that the main thing that makes the V96 version different is the company it is in i.e. all "Different Class" material. There have been other Pulp songs where the recorded version turned out to be similar to early versions ("Birds in Your Garden" and "Weeds" are examples of this)
