Just wanted to say that it was really nice meeting some people, both old and new, off the forum yesterday. I had a really great time at the premiere. I'm glad everyone who could make it made it and I hope you all enjoyed Sheffield.
It was really nice to see some of you. I'm back now on my sofa, watching my photos and enjoying myself. After the Q&A some of us were in the Leadmill. As we came in they played "DYRTFT". What a welcome! Maybe more tomorrow. Thank you all for you're nice company!
What a night that was! Firstly, apologies for the length of this post, but there's a lot to say. It was great to briefly chat with Eamonn and Sturdy, both top guys and very friendly! Also nice to see Jazza again.
As you can imagine, both myself and my partner Kayleigh were rather nervous at going to the premiere, knowing that it was likely that we would appear on the big screen at some point. Viewing it brought back just how cold that day was, and the shock of having Florian suddenly appear with a camera to interview us! We both looked a mess, and likely talked a lot of nonsense, but nevertheless we were thrilled that he decided to include us in his film. He really didn't have to do that, but in doing so it's made it much more personal to us, and - as we were glad to tell him at the afterparty - the film will be a lovely souvenir we will always treasure.
We thought it was great. We liked that unusual mixture of concert footage with anecdotes from those unique characters (some of whom we had the chance to meet afterwards), particularly the funny young lad in Castle Market, the rather profound words of that sweet young girl Liberty and the elderly lady who said there was no point in being miserable, before dragging on her cigarette! Jarvis' contributions were brilliant as expected, and Candida was admirably honest about her condition. Also, Florian made a great point in that the film was better for being about the things you cannot easily look up on Google or YouTube - it felt very fresh.
As for the day itself, we were surprised to spot both Mark and Nick with their families in the Mercure hotel during the afternoon, but we didn't want to bother them. The situation after the Q&A was very bizarre: whilst we waited with our friend at the stage door, a few of our fellow fans recognized us from the film and one sweet lady actually asked for a picture with us! Quite ridiculous, but rather flattering nonetheless! Is she here on Bar Italia, I wonder? If you are, thank you for making us feel important for that brief moment, that was fun.
The band appeared shortly afterwards, but as they were off to get their taxis we left them to it. We managed to say hello to Richard Hawley, who unfortunately is suffering from a slipped disc, I hope he's doing okay. Jarvis surprised us when HE recognized US and thanked us for being in the film! Sadly, although he agreed to have his photo taken with us - something we've never had - it suddenly became a bit too chaotic, and he had to go, and unfortunately we didn't get to speak to him at all at the afterparty either. A little patience from some fans would have improved the experience for everyone.
Similarly, we patiently waited to say hello to Nick Banks during the afterparty, after his rather fun DJ set; he was in conversation with someone, so we waited nearby. Although we've both been Pulp fans for a long time, we've rarely had the chance to speak to them, so it was exciting for us. However, whilst he was still in conversation, suddenly a crowd of 'fangirls' appeared with posters & cameras to mob him, and one even had the cheek to stand right in front of us, with her back to us! They knew we were there, and yet they completely blanked us. This really irritated us both, we felt completely invisible. The lack of awareness and social skills some people have amazes me, but there you go. We didn't let it sour our night though.
Thankfully they soon went away, having got what they wanted, and we had the pleasure of chatting not only to Nick, but also with his wife who was really kind to us - I look like her brother apparently! We talked about Nick's cheesy grin (see picture below) and supermarket shopping... turns out Mrs Banks and Kayleigh share a love of bargain hunting! They were great.
We also had the chance to speak to both Steve (he shares our love of Owen Pallett) and Candida, who said she was a "big fan of you two!". It was at this point that I began to think I was dreaming and someone was going to wake me up shortly. To think of the 10 year old lad sat in his bedroom listening to the 'Carry On Camping' bootleg of Glastonbury '95, too young to go and see them, not knowing that nearly twenty years later he'd be at a party with his heroes... it was an amazing evening. And if it does turn out to be the bookend to Pulp, what an amazing final night to remember.

Thanks to everyone I met on Saturday and congratulations Pip for getting your life written into the Pulp legacy.
I'm still composing my thoughts on the night and will write more later, but I just wanted to ask:
Did anyone else notice there was a new song on the soundtrack? It was on in the background whilst Jarvis was driving his car and talking about getting old (well, I think he was talking about getting old, I was a distracted by the song). It sounded a bit electroclash, like a Relaxed Muscle song.
. A little patience from some fans would have improved the experience for everyone.

We completely stayed away from Jarvis because Albert was with him but I know what you mean about some other people, we were near the DJ stand for the whole party and the amount of people shoving past us to pester Jarvis was ridiculous, he really looked fed up, and I think thats why Kim asked to leave and they went early. similarly we didnt chat to any of the band (apart from Candida outside before the film - Jarvis' security man Gaz filmed with us in the swimming pool so we went to say hello while Jarvis was being interviewed and he asked if we wanted to meet her (she recognised us too!) - we just wanted to have fun and it was privilege enough to go to the party and see Jarv and Nick having so much fun DJing.
i did, however have a photo on the pink carpet with my lovely friend Florian, and later, when we were all a bit trashed, with Alex.
While we were watching the film, Jarvis, Kim, Albert and Christine (Jarv's mum) were just in front of us and every time Christine laughed she made us laugh, which sometimes made her laugh. So in parts we were giggling uncontrollably.

I think that was just Superbike by the Fat Truckers, one half of whom is the non Jarvis half of RM.
I must confess I'm still on a massive high after the premiere. Florian said some very nice things to me and he included my name in the credits after being inspired by my Wickerman film! I have found that quite difficult to come to terms with but there you go. It was rather special and god bless Jarvis for playing that dub reggae version of the Star Wars theme tune.

what an amazing night.
I imagine this is exactly what Mark was talking about in the film - Jarvis doesn't have the option of being very normal, though he seems to do his best to try. I saw a picture some random twitter person took yesterday of the back of his head which said "Jarvis is on my train!". People are very ready to moan that slebs cut themselves off from normal people, but they don't stop to wonder if there might be a good reason for that, and that they might be that reason.
I am completely knackered now after expending all that emotion all weekend, have 2 important meetings to survive today, very bad timing, I'll see you all later. It was lovely seeing you all.

We'll use the one thing we've got more of, that's our minds.
I know one of those choir women quite well and she said that they'd filmed for two whole days all around Sheffield and all that was used in the film was that short clip of them rehearsing Common People.
We filmed all day around Sheffield, but it's to be expected that a tiny part is going to be used because it's only a 90 minute film isn't it? Florian did say to us "you know it will literally be a minute or two don't you?" as we had seen Love Story a couple of days before we knew what to expect. Although there was quite a bit of us in the concert footage, all our homemade tshirts were in :)

You must have one of the most overexposed backs in cinema history!
Totally agree with you Jarvgirl about it being a privilege just to be there - I actually felt like a bit out-of-place, like a competition winner! And I'm sad to hear that was the reason Jarvis left - he must sometimes feel rather jealous of Mark being able to get on the bus, living a siimple life he'll never be able to have again.
But onto happier thoughts, I'm glad you guys had a great time too :)
saw119 - that's a pity, it would have been a pleasure to chat - sadly, despite my intermittent presence on the forum all these years, I've not had the chance to meet too many of you all...
And weener, that was brilliant! A great way to make your acquaintance!
It is interesting to read who was who and a pity that we didn't met all. I've met a lot of people here and you were very nice to me. Thank you Stephen for showing me a lot of places in Sheffield and the very informative talk about english history, that was so interesting!. Thank you Fran for waiting for me so long in the pub on Weststreet, because the lady in the hotel sent me in the complete wrong direction (otherwise I wouldn't have seen Ladysbridge and the Wicker), thank you Panther for asking me to come and the whole brilliant other things, thank you Eamonn and your girlfriend for singing and shouting with us in the leadmill and thank you Fuzzfree for meeting us in the Leadmill too, that was a really nice surprise. I've learned a lot this weekend. A jacket on and off weather is a really hot day in Sheffield (here we have 35 ° C), there are many hills in this town, very, very friendly people and and and. I don't want to bother you with all these little details, but I really enjoyed every minute. Oh! and the tea!
I was quite near at the townhall when the band arrived and I'm very proud on my tele photo lense, I wasn't that near as it looks. So, I hope, the attachments will work.
