Disco 2000 CD on Ebay

This has popped up on Ebay

"In 1999, the copyright owners of Pulp's Disco 2000, Polygram Music, took an unprecedented action and produced a very special 100 run edition of this track and sent it to a very select mailing list."

I don't remember ever hearing about this, I remember the CD that was released in 1995 being reissued but surely we would have heard of this one by now. Could it just be something somebody has made themselves?

Seems a bit suspect. I remember reading that the band had specifically banned the track's use on ads and trailers etc in the runup to Y2K.

This sort of thing was common practice in the record/advertising industry before MP3 became the standard. I'd say its legit.

My guess is that Pulp only banned the track after they received offers from ad agencies wanting to use it. I'm sure there were some really awful proposals. Also, this could have been sent to other countries where Pulp couldn't be bothered to enforce the ban.

If it is a forgery, I'd say it's a ill-considered one. The design and packaging look rather expensive, you can only sell one copy, the CD format is dead, and if you are going to go through that much trouble to make something like this, why Pulp of all bands?

I do remember them banning it from use on ads/trailers as Sturdy mentioned.

Also, I am not sure if anyone else has noticed but rare Pulp prices on eBay seem very low at the moment. In the past couple of weeks, I've picked up a(nother) copy of "Master of the Universe", "OU", "Countdown" and "Lipgloss" (original 12"s) for a total of less than £50. Last time I bought a copy of "OU", that cost me about that alone. Also, an original "It" 12" went at £47, I think I've only seen this for sale once before.

Ebay has some good deals now and then but I find better prices more often on discogs. I got my copy of O.U. for about 15 bucks on there I think and it's in good condition. But I did get Master of the Universe on ebay. I like to check both, but some people have a pretty poor idea of what constitutes an acceptable price for pulp records on ebay. Or they're just trying to take advantage of naive fans
