...at the Bill Callahan gig at the Southbank Centre. I was sitting pretty near him. Quite boring I know but it's the first time I've spotted him since living in London!!
I dont actually think it's creepy by the way to discuss what a stylish person might be wearing. There are magazines devoted to it. I think it's odd that someone would instantly think "creepy" when someone enquires about someone else's attire. It's not as if I'm whispering it down the phone at 4 in the morning.

For what it's worth, I think it is entirely natural to ask what a person was wearing if they are spotted out and about in public, especially if one of the important things he or she is known for is his or her personal style.
Even when you spot someone whose style you don't admire, as soon as you say to your friends "Guess who I just saw in the street!" (this happens to me a lot because of where I work), and you tell them Madonna or Beyonce or whoever, their usual response is "And what was she wearing?". This is especially true when no interaction has taken place - it's not as if Jarvgirl could have said to Calum of Jarvis "Oh, what did he say to you?" or "What song did he sing?" 'cos all Calum did was see him. (It's like when a baby gets born - there aren't that many questions you can ask about it other than its sex and weight!)
Jarvis is always featuring in one kind of Best Dressed/Coolest Person list or other, so what he wears is a nationally discussed topic.
And if you love clothes as much as music, it is a vitally important question!
ok maybe not specifically that comment but, and maybe I'm the only one who thinks so and am going to make some enemies, but 99% of the 'RIP legend Pete Seeger' thread seemed to me to be wildly inappropriate.
Making explicit or unsubtle comments about how you want to sleep with Jarvis, or someone that looks like Jarvis or dream about sleeping with Jarvis to me seems like something that maybe better to keep to yourself - recently the forum seems to have stopped being about appreciating great music and musicians to a fangirlish look on how dishy they all are. From time to time people have speculated about whether any of the band actually looks on this forum, but I really hope they don't because I don't think they would get a good impression of what their fans are like.
God forbid people very occasionally talk about sex on a PULP forum. the Pete Seeger thread was mainly spent speaking German to help Maidmarian feel happy by the way, something which, I feel, would be appreciated by members of the band. One thread was used to discuss Jarvis and that was a thread started by me and only used by a few people. Im sorry you have a problem with that and I promise that from now on there will be no more of that from me.
I will however quote Jarvis, speaking about Fuckingsong: "By writing songs you can metaphorically fuck a lot of people at the same time."
Which is definitely more explicit than anything I've said on here.

Hello Jazza, I'm sorry, that you feel embarressed by the Pete Seeger thread. As Jarvgirl says, for me it was really nice, that so many people help me here to find my way through common speech. That is, what makes me think of this thread and until your comment it was one of the nicest moments I've had here on this forum. The rest just was fun, for me. And I think, because of these nice little chatts arise these occasions, where it's easy for me to ask. So, I apologize, such was not my intention to emberrase you.
Obviously I'm not trying to insult anyone here and I certainly wasn't complaining about the German speaking - Wenn du willst, Ich kann auch Deutsch sprechen (hell German is my favourite language ever - it's miles better than English)
How on earth can asking about what someone was wearing be described as creepy? It's one of the first things I think of - Jarvis is as well known for his style as for his music and so to my mind at least it's a perfectly valid question to ask.
For the record I don't usually post on here, and it's exactly for the reasons above ....that people can be judgmental and critical and get on their high horse about how they only "like the band for the music " and that anyone else who sees or thinks anything else about it must somehow not be a "true fan" . It's absolutely ridiculous. We all like the same band - This is not a competition .
We get from the band what we get from the band. If we find them attractive then so what? It's no worse that appreciating the lyrics or thinking that the music is fantastic.
I don't want to carry this on but it is quite insulting to be accused of being creepy and giving a bad impression to the band.
ok I'm just gonna make one point then shut up about it for good.
Before I joined this forum I lurked as many do. There have been threads about how much money Jarvis might be worth, his personal hygiene, comments about his relationships and where he lives. People complained that the recent concerts were just for the money, to mention just a few threads that were definitely not just about great music and great musicians. Now, I'm not judging any of the people who discussed those topics, why would I?
But do you honestly think that if anyone from Pulp were occasionally looking in on this forum, a couple of people having a friendly chat about how they fancy Jarvis would be the worst thing they could read?

For Christ's sake I'm not saying that people aren't 'true fan's' - that stuff irritates me just as much as anyone else, nor am I on my high horse about only liking the band for the music because I think that the members and pulp's history are just as interesting as their music. And although I'm sure nobody will believe me I'm not trying to start a fight or rub anybody up the wrong way and I don't think that having a crush on the member of the band is an issue - I do however think that there is a limit to how many of those sort of comments can be made in such a short period of time before it gets a bit trying, and for me personally that limit has been reached. Clearly I am in a minority so by all means carry on I just thought I ought to speak up but now I'm wishing I kept my bloody mouth closed.

Seriously? I think this is by far the most placid, easy-going forum I visit! There's not too many of us on here granted, so there's less chance for things to get out of hand but I find there's a good mix of serious discussion about Pulp and more light-hearted stuff.
Speaking personally, I've met quite a few people who post on here, one even this week, and without exception they've all been fairly legendary. The first Brixton 2011 show is one of my favourite ever gigs thanks in no small part to the forum meet-up we had and watching the gig with people as daft about Pulp as me. The last bit of argy-bargy I remember on here was Trixygate and that was six years ago (though, I guess the revelations of Scott Frazer acting the twat when selling bootlegs was pretty shitty too).
Basically, we're 98% cool as fcuk. Let's all get along and keep it that way
I should have clarified that it's the reason I don't use forums in general. Bar italia is the only one I've ever commented on ...and I think as forums go it's one of the better ones.
I've met people from here too, and usually they are pretty cool which is why in a way it's even more disappointing that it seemed to be getting all a bit judgmental. I realise that people posting stuff may not have thought it came across like that but it kinda did.
People will always be posting stuff about how they fancy band members etc and yes it could get tedious if you let it - but personally I just find that sort of thing amusing.
Like I said in the previous post we are all here for the same reason !
