Some of you might know that I put on a monthly indiepop night at Baby Jupiter in Leeds called Don't Falter. It's ace.
The reason this fact may be more relevant to this forum than usual is that as of this month, we're going to give the first hour over to a particular favourite band, and what better way of kicking things off than me playing Pulp records till people start throwing things at me? The answer is there is no better way. If you're around, come along from 9 to enjoy a hopefully not-too-predictable mixture of hits and obscurities.
After that, Missing Kids are playing live at 10pm and then it's the proper disco till 2. Hurrah!
Facebook event is at https://www.facebook.com/events/129089067264615/?fref=ts and our Twitter is at https://twitter.com/dontfalter should you be interested in such things.

I'm in Leeds over the weekend, i think i'll pop in if you promise to play 'master of the universe....so i can do my special pulp shuffle. It also works well with 'mark of the devil' too...either will suffice sir, thank you.
Sorry Sturdy, i couldn't make it & with this bad leg i probably couldn't have cut the mustard. I hope the pulp hour went well, what did you play? Did anyone else here go along?
Oh damn it - I wanted to pop along to this before but couldn't, and didn't realise it was a monthly thing. While echoing DEF2's questions, I'd like to ask when it's on? You mention monthly but is there a schedule?
(Having just read properly and followed on Twitter, I no longer need scheduling answers ("the first Saturday of every month"), but will leave them here for potential pluggings and for other non-twitter users)

Wickerman Little Girl (with Blue Eyes) Sunrise (Peel Session) Pink Glove (Peel Session) Cocaine Socialism Underwear Mile End Don't Let Him Waste Your Time Lipgloss PTA Party Hard Separations Maureen Common People (first 20 seconds only)
Bit of an odd selection, but it's always a bit quiet in the first hour which is my cue to be self-indulgent and daft!
To answer Ste's questions...
Don't Falter runs on the first Saturday of every month from 9-2 at Baby Jupiter, York Place, Leeds. It's free entry and there's a live band at 10 (sometimes two). We usually play a bit of Pulp amongst lots of other indie disco favourites - Hefner, B&S, Elastica, Long Blondes, Smiths, newer stuff like Allo Darlin, Lovely Eggs, older stuff like Velvet Underground, Human League, Bowie, and many a surprise as well.

Next one is Sat 1st Feb, with live sets from two ace bands from Newcastle, Yellow Creatures and Our Imaginary Friends.

Our Imaginary Friends From The North? Sounds good. Will have to time a Spring trip to Leeds with one of these and finally meet the Sturdy in the flesh.
Just in the midst of watching Our Friends in the North via Lovefilm funnily enough, never having seen it before. Really really good, far better than most of what's on these days (and indeed back then, probably).

Absolutely wonderful series. That and This Life (a very different beast of course, but one I'm currently re-watching) were both from that time and are probably still my two favourite tv dramas. A fair amount of Pulp in both too.
If you were ever sceptical of Daniel Craig's acting/typecast as a cold, smouldering killer,; watch him in Our Friends..., particularly as a down and out vagrant in the 1987 ep in London. Mark Strong (Tosker) has also gone on to do incredibly well in Hollywood (albeit, almost always portraying some sort of villain).
Yep, quite an ensemble in Our Friends in the North - Eccleston too, of course.
Saw This Life last time they repeated it a few years ago. Ace stuff (also responsible for at least one person I know choosing a career in law in the mid '90s. Highly impressionable).

Our Friends in the North is just amazing. I saw the play (which the series is based on) at Northern Stage a few years ago- interestingly, the play contains a whole plotline in Rhodesia which wasn't included in the tv series, I'm sure Geordie becomes a mercenary there or something. The title 'Our Friends in the North' actually comes from a term that South Africans used to use to refer to the Rhodesian government, apparently.
Fantastic/heartbreaking use of Common People in the final episode, too.
