I know back in the nineties when he got sack fulls he didn't reply to anybody, he kept them under his bed i think until he eventually burnt them! Im sure I read that on Pulpwiki in the pulp people magazine bit. For a signed pic or anything I'd consider writing to Rough trade.
I've met him and he is lovely, I told him we were seeing Pulp at Sheffield and he was telling me about rehearsing for it, then he wrote "... See you in Sheffield!..." In my book.
he's so lovely *fangirly sigh*

How does jarvis take to fanmail and/or letters? Also has anyone met jarvis here? What's he like? I desperately want to meet/thank him for all he's done for me but am scared I will never have the opportunity to. I hope he travels around the UK this year.
Is it possible to write him a letter with a photo inside and thus get a signed autogragh ? Does he despise fans who does things like that ? BTW if answer is positive then is the address provided by the BBC Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service website valid ?

Thanks.
It's a pity I'm non-British so it's never possible to meet him
I'll try rough trade then. Really hope it works cause I've never been so crazy about any celebrity before.
He'd be more likely to sign a recent photo or one taken in the 90s?
BTW just curious if he ever read them before burning them.

:swooon: that's exactly how i picture him.
i just want to meet him, say thank you and give him a hug. you guys reckon that's possible this year? (i live in the UK)
I attempted to make a Twitter list full of people from this board @musicbymeiosis/pulppeople - may lead you to it (not sure how to link to them!)
As for Jarvis... He's a properly, really nice bloke to chat too! I'd send your pic to sign - 1 to rough trade & 1 to BBC. No harm in asking is there?!
Ooh I wouldn't. I don't see him as a celeb cuz he's so down to earth and genuine. My ideology of celebrities would be someone that's so...what's the word...exiled from normality? I definitely think jarvis is a down to earth lovely guy. Or at least that's how he comes across in interviews...
When I met Jarvis at the initial book signing I noted that no one had their arms around him during the fan poses. Might be best to shake his hand and just stand alongside him.
Nobody hugged him when I met him either, my friends and I had a group photo with him as we'll as our own and we didn't even put our arms on him!
i have seen a really creepy video of him being pestered somewhere and 1 person did ask if they could hug him, ever polite he said yes but didn't hug back and definitely didn't seem to want it.

I sent him a record to his BBC address and didn't get a reply so I just e-mailed the BBC e-mail he has to ask if he'd gotten it and I did get a reply saying he had and thanking me for the record and the scarf I'd made for him. I also met him at Radio City and he was very friendly, a bit shy, but very nice and surprisingly easy to talk to. I didn't feel nervous at all when I met him which was the opposite of what I expected.

This is a pretty typical example that comes up on Twitter fairly regularly - the pointing thing is definitely a trademark. Along with numerous tweets along the lines of "Jarvis is on my train". We saw him at Sheffield station the morning after the arena show and he was being beseiged by a group of women very excitedly getting their pictures taken with him while he was in the queue for the ticket machine.

Yeah, he pointed at my three friends but did a "how" hand sign with me, for our group pic he put both hands up in a kind of "i surrender" way and smiled. :)
No I didn't hug him. I noticed what everyone else is saying which is that no one really hugged him. There was also a metal barrier between him and the fans that night which probably deterred people from asking.

May I ask an irrelevant question: do they still have his wax statue in Madame Tussauds or not? If they do guess I'll visit London someday and take pictures there, that would good enough for me already.
I'll send a letter to rough trade with a photo but not expecting to get it back. He might be totally occupied everyday and international mails get lost all the time... But still worth an an attempt, And thanks for the advice, I'll avoid the word "celebrity" in my letter.
I always feel surprised at how eager people seem to be to meet Jarvis, but then I guess he's different to so many artists because he's a personality, and that personality is integral to all of his work. He's very much like Alan Bennett in that respect- I've been to two talks with Alan Bennett over the last couple of months and he's so fascinating to listen to because you feel like you already know him, and exactly the same can be said for Jarvis.
A lot of threads on here tend to wander off course sometimes, but it's all right. It's just like having a normal conversation I think. You don't always stay right on track.

I knew nothing of this waxwork until just now... so thank you!
I haev emailed Maddam Tussauds to ask if it's still there, and if it's still kept behind glass to protect it from Michael Jackson fans :)
Did you not see the Jools Holland clip where Jarv mentions the fact that to check the colour of his eyes they sent him the head in a box? He said "they weren't bloodshot enough"
Its the one where he's plastered, it's on youtube.

Wondering if Rock Circus is part of Madame Tussauds. And according to wikipedia Rock Circus is not there any more.
In fact I remember reading that article before and it's an important reason why I doubt if they'd still keep him there. And that thing kind of made me sad.
Feeling sorry now because when I visited Madame Tussauds I had never heard of him or I would at least have tried searching everywhere.
I tried googling "Jarvis wax" or "Jarvis Madame Tussauds" but could only find no more than two pictures.
A pulp newsletter in 1996 that I found on Pulpwiki said "Jarvis had his first 3 hour sitting at Madame Tussauds on Friday 13th September for his Rock Circus double... a lucky start for the soon to be molten man." but I don't know if that's a joke I failed to get being a non-native speaker.
God, how pathetic are Michael Jackson fans? That article was written 4 years after the incident and they still want to sabotage a wax sculpture of Jarvis. As if that will accomplish anything
Hey guys, I know we're kind of drifting off into different subcategories in this thread but I didn't want to annoy anyone by making a ton of different threads being a relatively new member and everything. BUT! I was just wondering... is anyone going to go see Jarvis' talk at the lit festival on the 24th? If so, can you report back to us if he lets slip anything about Pulp plans or solo plans or book readings/signings? If you're feeling really confident you could even ask him if he has any plans to do something for us fans up North that can't travel down ^_^
How great would it be if he did like a mini-book-reading tour thingy? Ahhh.
Also don't forget to post any pictures or videos you get of/with him! :D can't wait to see footage!

Sorry. I was simply too eager to know, but never intended to spoil your thread, really.
If it bothers you, I'll stop talking about my question here. Maybe I'll try ask elsewhere, but not here anymore, I promise.
By the way, I'm dying to see some reports of his show too. :)

Oh noooo this wasn't a dig at you at all! This was me getting worried people will find me annoying cuz I keep posting all different things inside one thread.
I wish Jarvis' waxwork was still around too. I'd also love one of the cardboard cutouts from Different Class! If only...
I'd repeat - very nice guy to meet. When he turned up at the Royal Albert Hall gig he made a point of chatting to us fans (all four of us!) who were there. He seemed to size up quite how many of us there were because at first it was as if he intended to walk past us, but realising we were so few, decided to be polite. He was nervous, but very sweet.
Then I inadvertently did some slightly gay flirting at him. Because I am a fool.
HAHA! Does Jarvis do any other shows (music, reading, speaking) other than London based ones? I'm surprised he doesn't do more up North.
I imagine quite a few of things he does are not necessarily initiated himself, such as the book sessions which would have been arranged by Faber's publicity people, though no doubt he would have discussed that with them too. They will also want to match their publicity to relevant events and locations that are going to be productive for them, so when they organised bookshop signings, there was one in Sheffield and one in London as I remember and a couple of literary locations thrown in. This London thing tomorrow night is part of some bigger festival isn't it. so the organissers must have looked around for some interesting slebs who would complement their event and you see him at a few things like that from time to time. He was on Radio 5's Octoberfest thing in Sheffield last year, presumably a pretty go-to choice when you're on the lookout to book a Sheffield sleb. The Big Melt (http://sheffdocfest.com/films/show/5537) next month is obviously more his own thing, like last year's dance events featuring Relaxed Muscle, but even then, there quite often seems to be a strong collaborative element in some project that has caught his imagination and he is not the only one determining where or how it happens.

I took a few tour groups to Madame Tussaud's in 2009 part of my job. No Jarvis there then, and doubt they'll have put him back.
Thanks. So I won't have much to regret because I visited in 2010 when he wouldn't be found anyway. What I remember was that it was crowded and there were many storeys, and they simply took us to where the Twilight guy was. I was too tired to go around then. Since there is no Jarvis, I'm not planning a second visit anymore.

Brett Anderson and blueberries. How metropolitan.

I'm going. Will of course report back anything interesting.
What's the Sheffield doc fest? Are any of youse going?
It's an internationally acclaimed documentary film festival held here in Sheffield every year and I'm hoping to go if I can scrape enough money together and it isn't sold out.
Something I read gave me the impression he was going to be there, but I wasnt concentrating too hard at the time. The previous link said something about a live experience, this version of the listing says "with soundtrack performed live" - of course there isn't any clue as to what kind of soundtrack it is or who is performing it live.
Ahh sounds good. Sheffield isn't too far from me and the doc sounds super interesting so I might buy a ticket? Of course will be a bonus if jarv is there.
The 2 things I can remember from last night were; Jarvis saying that being as famous as he was in 96 made him feel like those pictures in barbershop windows. That you're still you but all the colour is gone and you're like a faded version of yourself.
He said he was at a level of fame now where he can walk around and get on with things without being mobbed and that he is enjoying that. He particularly mentioned "I can go on the tube!"
last night is still a bit of a blur for me as later on I met Jarv, when it seemed all hope of seeing him was lost and we thought he'd snuck out if the back door straight away so everyone else left. Because I'd travelled such a long way I decided to drown my sorrows, and lo and behold 20 minutes later he appeared, with some friends (including Steve).
so, I met him again and we had a lovely chat about the Sheffield gig. He was really open and honest and lovely and dreamy.

Jarvgirl's pic with Jarvis is sooo cute. He looks so happy :)
I wish he'd dropped hints at any future plans...
When I asked him if he minded if I asked him a question about the Sheffield gig I think he thought I was going to ask about more gigs or the DVD. He seemed pleased when it wasn't about that, and he seemed relaxed with me, which actually really surprised me. He even very nearly put his arm around me for the photo, he sort of put his arm out, I looked at him as he did and we both got a bit awkward and just stood close to each other.
it wasn't the kind of interview where they'd ask him about future plans unfortunately.

I recorded the whole Southbank talk but audio only, haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, it probably won't be great sound quality but should be listenable, I'll try and get in onto my computer later and then can pass it on if anyone's interested.
