Common People, according to the NME.  Very good issue this week, like going back 20 years.

Yep, also nods to Underwear, Sorted, Babbies, DYTFR, Hardcore and Disco. Maybe one or two others, can't remember.
Musician fans commenting on the songs include members of Noah & The Whale, Palma Violets (well, their producer did get them free tickets for the Sheffield show) and Frank Turner.
Fuck sake Pulp, don't be lazy and just write again. It's what the world wants most after the new Daft Punk album.

The NME rate it as the best song of the whole 90s, so that surely has to include being the best Britpop song.

Nice to see Ash on there, practically all their singles deserve to be in the top 100.

Perhaps the most striking thing about the top 100 was that about 40% of the songs would be covered by Pulp, Blur, Oasis and Suede.  The top 10 was 80% with only Elastica and Black Grape (McAlmont & Butler may not be Suede but a very direct connection).

Had a similar list been produced of any other era, it's hard to believe so few bands dominating to the same degree.

I don't know if the world at large cares, but they have been so quiet in recent months there must be an album on the way.

I'm getting a bit desperate now, after Record Store Day, Southbank coming up in a couple of weeks, after that nothing? Don't think I'll manage.

I noticed exactly the same thing about the list having bought the NME this morning and was just about to post the same thing. It's a very telling statistic.

Just an aside to this, I supplied the Common People 7" picture cover used. At 6pm on the day before it was due to go to print, the NME didn't have that pic! Doesn't that seem unbelievable?...... Had to rush it round to IPC by 11am the next morning!
