I'm trying to solve a doubt about the huge "Like a Friend".
Evereybody round here knows there are two versions, one from the GReat Expectations OST, and the one included as b-side (A Little Soul, i think):
3:58 (the "short one")
4:32 (the one included in the TIH re-edition)
My question is about a 5:18 version i have from the song in mp3, maybe my favourite. Anyone knows where does this come from? Is it a fan-edited version? Has it been published?
The "long version" is the one found on the b-side to "A Little Soul" and as a bonus track on "This is Hardcore". It is the most common version.
The "short version" is the one found on the "Great Expectations" soundtrack. It features double-tracked vocals and a shorter instrumental. There was a mistake in the lyrics book too, apparently - two extra lines were added (something like "I can't believe that it's still going on, something so pathetic and dumb" but I might be way off) though I've never seen a copy, just peoples transcripts on their websites.

Hi again everybody. It's been my first post round here, so must say i'm impressed for your fast responses...seems this pulp-maniac site works well! Sorry if my english isnīt as good as Jarvis lyrics: English it's not my first language.
The more i listen to this rare mix, the more convinced i am it must have been a "fan edit". Someone who decided such a good song wasnīt long enough, (very understandable, it's obvious that many people round here would love a 50 minutes version), and did a good work at mixing.
I've checked the "long" version, second by second, comparing it with the shorter one, and they are exactly the same till 3.17. In the film mix, at that point a guitar solo begins, while in this mix, the chorus is repeated again from "you're the last drink.." The most obscure point is where did i got this mix..i was absolutely convicend i had recorded from somenone's cd, till i checked at the internet it wasnīt an official mix. I donīt know now.. So Ian, Saw119, Weei, Dixie999 (I can appreciate the diference between Like A friend and My Lighthouse!!), thank you very much for your ultra-fast answers. This isnīt probably more than the work of a pulp-fan, but i've uploaded for you as a curiosity: I hope you like as much as i've liked during this years, convinced it was an official extended version. You can download "Like a Friend SrHelvetica-Thought-It-Was version" round here:
Sounds to me just like someone has extended it - 3.34 into the song, theres the edit point. Ive never heard this before, sounds like a rough mix to me as the levels are different, so I would say unofficial. Thanks for sharing with us.
Sounds pretty odd even before the edit. Was the double-tracking in the vocals always like that? I'm listening through a new stereo so it may just be that.
I think this version is much better than the one included as "A Little Soul" b-side. Shorter, but better: Double tracked vocals at the end are glorious.
