That's understandable! Like, out of the songs on the list, I've only seen one on the daytime playlist when I've been in the studio! I'm yet to see them unfortunately, but I found that song through Frank Turner

So to pick the 10 best songs of 2012, you give us a choice of 20 songs by 15 artists? 3 of which are by Muse? I think you are going to have to try a little harder.

Anyway, just to be willfully obscure, I'm going to plug "Sixteen Weeks" by Parentheses..., just because I'm glad Tim Benton from Baxendale is back to writing music.

So as some of you may know, I have a radio show called Hidden And Not So Hidden Gems. At the moment, I'm running a poll to decide what the best 10 songs of 2012 are, I've created a MULTIPLE choice shortlist and there's a suggestion box at the bottom too! I'd be forever grateful if you voted...

Done but I didn't like any of your suggestions. Can't believe you didn't include Elephant by Tame Impala.

Well, the daytime part of the station (my show is classed as specialist) is having their own poll and I've avoided choices on their list (of which Elephant was one)

Ahh, that little bit of context helps alot. I'm always rubbish at these polls 'cos I never seem to like the songs in 'em. If you don't mind me asking what's specialist about your segment, all the songs on your list are pretty mainstream.

Well, I try to play stuff that won't usually get aired on Radio 1, commercial radio etc as well as album tracks and b-sides.

Ok, I'm not being deliberately obtuse just generally interested. I don't listen to Radio 1 but you often hear stuff like that on 6music. I love Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo though and they're a superb live act as well.

Cos I'm an old geezer I don't know what's popular and what isn't, I just know what I like.

I was thinking maybe a bit later in the month we should see what everyone's top 10 albums for the year were. Some pretty good stuff came out this year.

I've heard one of the Muse ones, and the Hawley one. The latter didn't inspire.

No room for some of the exciting sounds of bands like Allo Darlin, Veronica Falls, Standard Fare, This Many Boyfriends etc? All four getting a fair bit of airplay on BBC6 these days, which sadly isn't reflected in sales of any sort, but each are brilliant live bands and should be represented in anyone's 2012 list I think...

Well, I based it on what I've played on my show more than anything else, but of course there is the suggestions box too!

Best year in a decade in my opinion and I've already written my top 13 in anticipation of whittling it down to 10 and posting it later on this week.smile

Panic Station would be in the list but there's the little matter of the F bomb...
