Nice...were they in attendance? I had thought it was a bit surprising that, the NME award aside, there hadn't been enough back-slapping for them at the various industry dos.
It appears they were, sans Russell. From Q's twitter feed:
2h Q Magazine @QMagazine The winners of Q Inspiration are Sheffields finest Pulp, who take to the stage led by @reallyjcocker #QAwards
2h Q Magazine @QMagazine Jarvis: "It's always nice when people say you're all right. It's very good Sheila is here, because the music John Peel played inspired us."
2h Q Magazine @QMagazine Jarvis says Russell can't be here today because he's got a bad back, and Liam their road manager isn't because he got lost en route.
Q Magazine @QMagazine Jarvis: "Anyone can be in a band, you don't have to go to an academy, that's what makes it magical." #QAwards
There's interviews of most of the other awards winners on Q's youtube channel, nothing of Pulp as of yet. Nice to see Dexy's get an award too. Manics' classic album for Generation Terrorist though?! Can't be a coincidence that it's about to be reissued...hmm, more advertising spend in Q by whoever Manic's record label is.
These things mean feck all, and I don't think Russell was too fond of them back in the day either. But it's nice to see them get recognition.
Just found out about this via Catie Wilkins on Twitter who says, "I'd love to tell my 15-year-old-self that in 2012 she will watch her husband present a Q Award to Pulp."
Which I thought was pretty nice. Her husband is Richard Herring who will no doubt write about it in his daily blog.
Don't you think the lack of a simple denial of new material is significant in itself? As others have said lately, I seriously doubt any suggestion of some teasing marketing campaign going on, they just presumably can't make up their minds, as usual. Someone mentioned in the "I wish" thread, I think, that they seem to be trying to fit everything around their day jobs, well Nick pretty much said that in his Radio Sheffield interview a couple of months ago. Jarvis is obviously not short of things to do. As for the cruise, I am reluctant to go there, that has been done to death and we all have our opinions that we will no doubt be sticking to!
Lack of pictures of the rest of them: I get the impression that they don't really like all the attention and probably send Jarvis off to do all that kind of thing for them. I'm sure I read an old interview with Candida quite recently where she said she was briefly resentful of Jarvis getting all the attention, then realised what a bind it was - here's a couple of her quotes from Acrylic Afternoons:
From 1999
Women don't crave the limelight as much as men. We show off more subtly. On the whole I'm quite happy all the attention is directed at Jarvis [Cocker]. Three years ago, at the peak of our fame, I thought it would all drive me mad. Touring, promoting and recording was so non-stop that my personal life was getting messed up.
From 1996
Do you ever wish you were as famous as Jarvis?
No. Unlike Jarvis, I don't get recognised on the street and I've only been asked for my autograph twice. I'm glad I can walk around anonymously. I'd hate to be recognised while I was looking dead rough. I'm glad that so much of the attention is focused on Jarvis. But that leads people to say Pulp is Jarvis' band, that we wouldn't exist if it wasn't for him - and that's not true. It's not his band. We all have a say in what happens in Pulp. I sometimes wonder how Jarvis does it. As I've realised today, posing for photos and doing interviews on your own isn't easy. I would worry if I got as famous as him.

It's weird because from that lack of dismissal of the idea you'd get the impression it might be on the cards, yet Nick seemed pretty definite it wouldn't happen a few months back
Well. my twopenneth is that Fran is right. I don't they really know whether they want to produce new material or not, their tombstone should read 'Here Lies Pulp, They Dithered'
Sorry Tricia, I remember that discussion from a while back now then. So who is @notjarviscocker?
I don't think they'll have any gigs planned for 2013 at the moment - booking agents would already be booking venues now. I reckon you're right, combination of dithering and being busy.

If you didn't come to party then why did you come?
Have they ever in their entire history entered a third year of touring without any new material? I know it all appears very ad-hoc but there is a little glimmer their when Jarvis is asked about new material that this time he has something to tell but just isn't going to tell it. I think part of the reason the reunion has been so successful is that it has been that their has been little hype & no bigger plan from record company involvement.
There is a tiny bit of blurb on this page promising more info in the next issue of the magazine. Now i don't imagine that will be really earth-shattering, but maybe some interesting titbit. Watching that video again carefully, the bit where Jarvis goes all vague, he is being asked both about new material and generally carrying on next year all at the same time! It also strruck me the first time I watched it that the part where he is asked if they have enjoyed playing so far, he instantly and naturally replied very positively.
Will we get to see footage of Pulp being presented with the award? Channel 4 used to show the awards late on the Friday night (I think) following the actual "ceremony" but I'm not sure they do anymore.
