Yeah, had the same thought earlier. 5 discs is overkill isn't it? The CDs just replicate the DVD content from what I can see. Just bung a code to download the audio and make it visual only. The sound from that Hyde Park show was meant to be shite, not loud enough. I think they managed the time slots to fit with the curfew better than Pulp did last year though.
I don't think a DVD of Sheffield would be a bad idea! I think the gig has come too late to sell for Christmas mind! Maybe next year, with a behind-the-scenes from Glastonbury 2013 as a bonus feature............................
if i'm honest the almost complete lack of band interviews or an officially released recording of ANY 2011-2012 gig has really pissed me off. its bugged me that the only communication Pulp have with their fans during this reunion is pretty infrequent tweets/facebook posts...that are just advertising a new gig, then total silence til they're up on stage.
I know they all have lives but if they just spoke a little more like an interview or 2 about what they're doing or how it's going, whether they'll continue or not beyond this reunion wave then it'd be nice.
Jarvis drops the odd comment here and there when interviewed by himself and it's inevitable. But where were the big full band interviews in any music mags? The mystery schtick got old really fast it seems like they just can't be bothered doing anything more than they absolutely HAVE to and now I just find myself agreeing with the people suggesting they're just doing it for the cash which is a shame. Especially the fucking cruise ship gigs what the fuck are they about?! They can't bring themselves to do anything like a tour of the UK, even a small one, but they'll happily go and pocket a fat wad playing on HMS Rich Kid?
at least with Blur's reunion they've been out doing BBC Radio shows, playing that gig at the 100 club, a (small) UK tour and now there's a live album, or 5 disc box for those who want it?? I'm happy to be proven wrong if Pulp suddenly announce a proper UK tour instead of these on/off mini trips to countries where they'll earn a load of cash then come back to do nothing but wait for one big gig in sheffield. If they tour and put out some recordings then fine but right now I'm a bit bored of waiting to see if they're a serious band again or just dusting off the cobwebs every few months to make some money then go off the radar again!!! :( I still haven't seen them!!!!

Well done - you've basically summed up what I hate myself for thinking. Really hope we are wrong
I kind of agree with the interview thing and all that but I think a large part of that could just be that the band wasn't really interested in being in the spotlight back when they were famous (preferring to leave it to Jarvis) and maybe they just feel the same way now? I do wish they would be a little more forthcoming about what the future holds because it's sort of really inconvenient to not know if they'll be playing a show where you'd like to see them (or do the small UK tour like crash helmet said) and so you've got people trying to save money in case but it's not like we fans are made of money to be saving on the off chance that we might get to see them. And no news at all leaves us no choice.
it's almost like they're trying to just do this Pulp reunion thing around their everyday lives, but at some point I think they need to come out and say exactly what they plan on doing in the future instead of just vague hints at possibilities.

I think the whole ethos is geared around it being as spontaneous as possible and only doing the gigs that sound interesting to them. Which becomes a ball-ache for fans after a while. I doubt they are apologetic about it. The self-tagged "beacon of inefficiency" of Pulp, not splitting-up properly in '02 etc. is just what they are. Which, I agree, is a bit unfortunate. I do think at best, they'll maintain a Pixies type reunion; touring most summers and maybe even doing album shows (HnH and TIH only I guess considering DC has been dusted-off in large chunks over the past 18 months). More likely, I can see them finish-up at the end of this year. I'm just speculating but I've a feeling Jarvis was more than happy to write new stuff with the group but there isn't the same will among all members. A pity if so. I would like to hear a new album from him soon though. A masterpiece before he hits 50 would be nice.
Maybe they haven't done interviews because they're still not sure what the future holds?
I can't see them doing it, but I would LOVE to see a "No Distance Left to Run" type of documentary by Pulp; I was so touched by that film (though slightly depressed). The little bits of casual/interview footage in Pulp Hits and F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.I.V.E. are fascinating. Any type of release would definitely make up for the infuriating silence during this reunion, though. I just rewatched both DVDs this weekend and was wondering why they didn't do their own narrations for the tour clips on F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.I.V.E. Also wondered if the band members were interviewed for the DYRTFT short...random questions that maybe someone on here might be able to answer...
It could be argued that both The Beat Is The Law and Fanfare For The Common People cover a lot of the ground from the 80's through to early (even mid?) 90's. It's been shown time and again that the band aren't too keen on exposing themselves to media scrutiny. Also, Jarvis seems so overwhelmingly embarrassed by the pre-fame 80's I'm not sure any doc would accurately portray the band as we would like them to be portrayed. It doesn't matter hwo much we want it Jarvis is never going to discuss why there are two completely different songs that are called My First Wife and what exactly Cousins is all about!
If/when they call it a day, I'd at least like to see a nice CD/DVD boxset (perhaps do what Green Day did and instead of having one consistent gig on the CD, choose the best performances of songs from across the entire tour and one gig, possibly Sheffield, on the DVD). But, I think album gigs would also be a good idea, I'd love to see the whole of His N Hers + b sides live.. especially Seconds.
