Another poll for you, picking only one from the list below can you decide which is pulps worst song on Different Class.
Mis Shapes
Pencil Skirt
Common People
I Spy
Disco 2000
Live Bed Show
Something Changed
Sorted
FEELING CALLED LOVE
Underwear
Monday Morning
Bar Italia
What I may then do is publish tracks from His N Hers, TIH and We Love Life so that we can have worst track on each album.
Personally I think all of the tracks on Different Class are amazing so this is really difficult. At the moment I am torn between choosing Live Bed Show and I spy as worst track!!

Even though its one of my favourite Pulp songs, Disco 2000 is the sore thumb on the album ONLY due to the fact the album mix is far worse than the single mix
When are we going to get the "Most moderate Pulp song recorded after Freaks but written before; up as far as We Love Life excluding all soundtrack songs but including all collaborations and covers except for that one with the yellowy eyes" poll?
This just highlights why I can rarely bring myself to diss any music as rubbish, only stuff I don't like. For everyone's least favourite song/band, someone else will come along and say it's their favourite. Even Take That are good at what they do and I am happy for other people to enjoy them doing it. I Spy is easily my favourite song on the album, possibly of all Pulp songs. I tend to groan when I hear Disco 2000 come on the radio and did think for a while I don't really like it so much, but when it does come on, I realise I was wrong and am just reacting to it being overplayed. As for my least favourite on DC, I can't say I don't like any of them, but the only one I sometimes want to hurry over is Live Bed Show (cue incomprehending remarks from it's defenders).

If anything, "Live Bed Show" is one of the strongest! I think that "Pencil Skirt" is the weakest, it just doesn't move me in the same way the songs around it do.
I think it must come down to personal preference, as there's some songs listed that I think 'how can that be your least favourite song?' but I'm sure my choices will make people do the same!
I Spy or Live Bed Show, judging by the amount of times they've been played on my iTunes. Probably I Spy due to it's length (awful reason I know), no idea why I'm not too fond of Live Bed Show though.
Mind you, they're all brilliant songs and if I was forced to listen to any of them then I wouldn't mind that much at all!!
It's all brilliant, but I'll go for Pencil Skirt. But only because, as Select pointed out at the time and I've never forgotten since, the middle bit is just Common People slowed down. Poor sequencing, track-wise.
What I'm about to write will be blasphemy on a Pulp message board but I often skip Common People. I've just heard it so many times it's started to become background noise. I find that now I only listen to it now and again I enjoy Common People a lot more. Also, I'm not a fan of Misshapes although it's rare that I skip it because it is a good opening track.
Why is the poll in red? The whole 'pick your worst song' thing in red letters is a little disturbing so I'm not playing, other than to say I think the album works brilliantly as a whole, and unless I hear all the tracks in the correct order it's very wrong. And to put it on shuffle would be sacrilege.
Lauren - I'm with you on common people! Great song but way too many times over the years. Sadly DC is my least played album (I think as I am on my 3rd, it may have been a tad overplayed by moi) - I remember I Spy being my fave originally but now I tend to skip over that one.
BTW - Can't beat Common people live though! I may groan when it's on the radio but bounce up and down for it at a gig.
Hi guys, not been negative at all. In my opinion Different Class in an amazing pulp album, just wondered what everyones least fav was that's all.
I only wrote in red so that it stood out lol.
Monday Morning isn't BAD, it's just badly recorded and the arrangement isn't too great..the melody and lyrics and good but it sounds dead thin and that awkward reggae style pre chorus is just dreadful.
I suspect that opinion on We Can Dance Again will be split between those who first encountered it as a rough but brilliant live bootleg track and those who first heard it as a shoddy, disappointing demo.
Well i've had the live version for about 5 years before it was released as a demo, i've had the Chevette versions few months before and i still love the song. It's obviously not finished, but recorded properly, it would have made a great DC track. It's a shame it was left over as a demo but i'm glad at least such a version exists. It's still better than Monday Morning, even as a demo
Am I the only one who thinks We Can Dance Again would fit better on His N Hers? It's got that (cheesy is the wrong word), it's more 'in your face' synth sound which is very common on H'n'H, perhaps instead of Someone Like The Moon? I just couldn't imagine it on DC!

It's on Different Class Deluxe. Go now and listen to it Anet. Maybe on YouTube or spotify or whatever and give us your first impression of it.
Right, just found it on youtube. Have to say, first hearing has not blown me away. I'm inclined to agree with Fred's opinion. And Jazza's view that it doesn't fit on DC. However, nothing ever sounds great listened to on my laptop, it's all tinny and weedy, so I will reserve a full opinion until I have purchased my deluxe Different Class. Which could be some time as I don't have deluxe finances at the moment.
Never really was a fan of Mis Shapes. I know it's kind of the theme of the album, but that song never grabbed me like the others. I always thought Monday Morning was great, and even better live.
New member by the way...long time lurker. Thought I'd finally add to the discussion.
It's not the production putting me off (I like Catcliffe, Street Operator... Hell I even prefer Paula) it's god awful lines like "and if you hold me tight I might just stay the night" Pulp are better than that. Sounds more like a James Blunt song.

Yeah it sounds like a song inbetween the two records, but again that's the production. It would probably have sounded closer to Disco 2000 on DC.

I've only ever heard the demo of We Can Dance Again from the Different Class deluxe edition and it's easily in my top 5 Pulp songs of all time. I actually didn't know they had played it live until reading this thread.
Nah, it's the best non-mawkish love song ever. Webber's lead guitar line tops it off lovely.
I don't have anything to add to this. Apart from maybe Fred's observation that this love song sings about love in an entirely unique - and very non-ordinary - way!

Finally someone that makes sense ! i thought i was the only one
This song just screams hit, not only hit but classic. Biggest mistake ever.
Something Changed is one of my favourite Pulp songs, the lyrics are brilliant and that song means a lot to me. I can see why some people wouldn't be fans though
I go through phases of really liking Something Changed and then disliking it. I think it depends on how bitter and cynical my view of love is at the time.
"Why live in the world when you can live in your head?" is a great lyric.
I remember having that lyric scribbled over my text books at school...you know instead of wall paper (first home work of senior school 'back your books' with anything...wall paper seemed a favourite!?!)
Re: something changed....I don't know, It just inst Pulp to me, its a wishy-washy version of pulp..kinda diluted. It could never be a love song to me (and I've had a couple of exs that have tried to change my mind) it has always left me with a 'hmm yeah...' feeling since it was released, and i was young teenager then. I tend to skip it when it comes on. Sorry.
Arr(gh)Gee... seriously ? While the riff is reminiscent of Gloria, the melody isn't. Many many artists use riff from other songs, i don't consider that a rip of as long as it's done with class, which is the case here. It's more of a nod to the Disco years, coz many songs had that kinda riff, even used in the 80s. And even, when you listen to the songs back to back, it's not THAT similar. Disco 2000 riff is much more intense.
As for the lyrics : the "Deborah.. Deboraaah" is just great, and i love the fact that Jarvis always put some weird lyrics like the "never suited ya". It really put the character in perspective. In 3 words You can imagine all sort of stuff behind that lyrics : was it because she was dumb, ugly, a smart ass... etc
Well i guess my fight is a war already lost on this board. You all hate pop songs i get that.

Attached a poll to get a better overall picture, but Disco 2000 is pretty poor.
Your name was Deborah, it never suited ya is the worst rhyme ever, and the song is just a rip of Gloria and that was rubbish as well. I always skip it along with misshapes.

I agree completely :)
Regarding remastering...was the 2006 one not good enough? I honestly don't know, my ear isn't tuned enough to spot the little nuances.
I find having to choose between songs very traumatic, I want to pick no bad songs but my husband was giving me grief for that and said I had to pick something, so I had to go with Live Bed Show. But as Violin Thing points out, it is all relative.

I'm gonna say Sorted; I enjoy the song, but the synth loop and the acoustic guitar just dont work together AT ALL. I always felt like that and F.E.E.L.I.N.G. were last minute attempts to put more seperations-esque dance songs into the final mix, to varying degrees of success. It would have made a good acoustic ballad or dance track, but not both.
Monday Morning has always been one of my personal favorites; the unlikely ska riffs, Russell rocking out on lead guitar and Jarvis just screaming his head off on that last verse give me chills. Something Changed was good, but maybe too conventional and singer songwriter-y, which seemed to bore the others. Ditto for 'A Little Soul' with which I know Mark couldnt stand...
All in all I don't think there's any BAD songs on the album, it's arguably their most solid effort all around, I think you really have to dig close to find little pet peeves or flaws.

cool :)
Was it resmatered ? I really can't remember, i usually listen to that record on vinyl. Much better.

I love pop songs. Nothing better than a storming single. Every Pulp single from O.U. to Sorted (ignoring the other a-sides like Mis-shapes and Underwear) were perfect pop songs. I just don't like Disco 2000. I think it's poor.
'Your name was Deborah, it never suited ya' is one of the best rhymes ever! And why does I Spy have 11% of the votes? I consider that one a masterpiece. What don't people rate about it?
I'm with you Anet on I Spy. It would reflect the usual diversity of opinion on this board if every song ended up with an equal number of votes. For everyone who hates a song, someone else will love it. Even Something Changed is opening up an early lead here, yet it's high up on lots of people's lists. It seems to fall strongly into a category of songs that some people just don't get and other people do - I think there might have been a thread about that once.

I dont like Pencil Skirt, never have. Different Class really only comes out when about to head out...maybe it should be called Netball Skirt or slutty skirt or Parachute skirt....I spy on the other hand, the band at its best and when they're in full flight when they play this live....nothing really comes close to it.
I'm really disappointed that Pencil Skirt is currently so far in front to the extent that I may make several new accounts and personas just to rig this poll :P
