Wow! What a favour to pull in. Although, I don't think Jarvis' Mum has tended to do that kind of thing very much before, has she? Fair play to her! I'm sure Felix enjoyed his day, too...

Do you think he won over any new fans? Wonder what other songs he did. He presumably kept it quite family friendly.

I heard he encored with Back in LA and Running the World.

I'd hardly say Party Hard is family friendly, "he just shot his load on your best party frock". I'm rather surprised Pulp didn't do the jubilee concert in London considering that Common People is arguably one of the biggest songs of Her Majesty's reign.

Very arguably! It wasn't even the biggest song of the week when it was released!

Charts don't mean shit. Changes by Bowie didn't even scrape the top 40.

I do think though, that that week's number one - Unchained Melody/White Cliffs of Dover definitely stands more chance of being played in a Jubillee scenario than Common People.

But yes, huge swathes of pop heritage were left untouched. Nothing from mid 80s to late 90s really. Unless you count Elton John.

I saw something about this a while back, at the village school, I think it said Christine is a governor.

Felix has quite a surreal YouTube channel too, super hero spoof is quite a laugh.

Well, considering that there isn't a person I know who doesn't recognise the tune at least I'd argue that it is very much well known.

Very disappointed in McCartney not singing 'Her Majesty' - that would have been the best thing ever.

Haha, made me crack a smile, Stephen :)

So does anyone know what he really played? And don't say This is Hardcore and My Erection! I'm gonna guess Something Changed, Big Julie (lyrics changed to Elizabeth) and Help The Aged.

On another note... what did everyone make of the acts on at the Jubilee Concert?

We turned on to see will.i.am at which point my friends and I were discussing what a shame that such music represented the nations Jubilee. But it got better... thought the Madness looking tiny on top of Buckingham Palace with council houses projected onto the palace was brilliant. As were Stevie Wonder, soloist with the guitar, McCartney and Robbie Williams (though I'm biased as he comes from my home town!)

The article only said that he sang Common People.

I'm not surprised that they didn't do it - the whole thing is/was completely hideous! can't see them being ardant royalists somehow
Cinema on sunday to escape the horror
working monday/tuesday to escape the horror (even though i work on a paper i didn't need to do much work on it)

maybe i'm just a miserable old jock!

Also managed to avoid it. I've heard a lot of people slagging off Paul McCartney since, though. Was he really that bad, or is it just people who've never heard a concert before and/or still expected him to be about 30 years old or something?

Saw a bit of the boats, too. But spent most of the time setting home in New House.

Oh yes, around the time of the boats (or was it something else?) David Starkey was being interviewed by Philip Schofield and a royalistically sycophantic female presented. She was banging on about how reforming and forward thinking the Queen is and mentioned that the Queen had 'pushed for' the 1953 Coronation to be televised. Starkey replied that this wasn't the case at all, and the Queen had actually been against the televising.

"Well, I'm being told two different stories!" flustered said presented.

"I'm not sure what the Palace is telling you and what their agenda is," replied Starkey, "but they are the Palace and I am an historian".

I enjoyed that bit. I have paraphrased this. Probably quite liberally.

I'm not a raging royalist but I think that it's quite amazing how the royal family can seemingly unite everyone (except for republicans) in Britain - how can that be a bad thing even if it was a bit extravagant. I personally enjoyed the atmosphere and everything but then again all I saw of it was the recap on the news so maybe I can't really talk.

As with the wedding last year, most people I know seem happy enough to accept the extra bank holiday and have enjoyed the stimulus to organise community activities that has come with it, in spite of rather than because of the official reason. Bristol is the street party capital of Britain according to the Evening Post, so we have definitely got into the whole community thing, which is very positive.

Bumping this thread as footage from Carltonbury has surfaced.

There's a couple of other vids as well from the same set, snippets of Babies and Sorted.

Really enjoyed that. Think it's the first time I've heard Jarvis play a song solo with guitar from start to finish. Good job.

See he's still got the high heels, the patter and the customisation of Sorted for the audience. Would've been fun if it had got to the "Mother, I can never come home" bit and pan round the crowd to find his num.

this is very surreal! Part of me is quite disappointed that Jarvis played a Jubilee village fete, but at the same time it's a lovely thing to do, and also slightly bizarre.
