As I think you know, Manon was recorded by Pulp at the 'Little Girl' session in June '85, squeaked out in August '86 on the 'Imminent' compilation, was overdubbed with a new vocal and partially rerecorded in June '86 and came out as the 'Master of the Universe' B-side in March '87.
However, it's the Imminent version that was included on the 'Masters...' comp, and everything else. The - to my mind - superior '86 version has been overlooked for a long time, with only a slightly crackly vinyl version in circulation (as can be found on Pulp Portfolio #10). However, the Paul Mills tapes includes that very same version, but it was taped from vinyl to cassette some time - it seems - around '87/'88. Thus it is crackle free as it was recorded from a very little played vinyl! However, there is - obviously - a bit of tape hiss and some of the usual bassy-ness one would usually expect with a taped copy.
I've uploaded the two below. As stated, the first version was already in circulation, but see if you think the Mills recording improves on what we already have or not. It's certainly bassier to my ears (too much?), and on relistening I don't think it is as good quality due to this, but it is nice to hear it crackle-free!
