How's about this? I'll probably read it in the morning and shudder but I'll post it anyway. I'm off to bed:
In October 2001 Pulp released their seventh studio album We Love Life, it had been two years in the making and it would prove to be their last.
Making the album proved difficult, there were various stops and starts, there were four aborted recording sessions before the band entered the studio with Scott Walker as producer and the album finally started to take shape.
Unfortunately some of the bands finest songs fell by the wayside, some were played live a handful of times, some were leaked as demoes, only heard by the most ardent fans, a few others have never been heard at all.
In 2006 the band's other three albums with Island Records (His n Hers, Different Class and This Is Hardcore) were released as deluxe versions, each with a bonus disc of rare and unreleased tracks.
We Love Life Deluxe was never released and based on what has been heard, it would have been superb.
Er, and what is wrong, or much different to the above for that matter, with what I put on the wiki?! *sniff*
Nah, Jazza has been the most creative with the flyer and video. Interesting, as when me and Will put the idea of a deluxe petition together one suggestion we had was putting a video on youtube with snippets of the demos and live stuff that is out there. Our concern was over the inclusion of demos in circulation, being as they shouldn't really be, and that Universal could well take a dim view of the whole thing if they knew about it.
I think Jazza's video is great, maybe if we could make one with bits of the live ''Flux'' versions of The Quiet Revolution and Cuckoo aswell as the Grandfather's Nursery demo (which was actually released, albeit in a curious way). And then put a bit of meat on the thing by adding in bits of My Body May Die and Born To Cry too and then have text similar to Jazza's on-screen. Stuff like the bit about Quiet Revolution from Jarvis' book.
one thing that might help is a proper stand alone link for the petition, rather than a page on the wiki site. I personally feel that having the link on the wiki feels like its just a bunch of fans trying to get songs released , whereas a new link would feel more professional. The new link could always lead people back to the wiki to 'learn more about PULP'.
Stephen was pimping your write up I think as I suggested. Then after I suggested it I thought well theyll read that when they visit the site so I'll write something different. But if it's a direct link that doesnt matter. Do you want to do that video Eamon? Sounds good. Have you got the skills to do it? I know I haven't.
Normally I would also be able to do a video but my exams start next week. If we still haven't got enough signatures by 23rd May then I will have 18 months with nothing to do, but until then I'm too busy revising
I can't do a youtube video but I've had a crack at the audio if that's any help.
Snippets of Cuckoo, Revolution (both live at Flux) and Grandfather.
It sounds alright to me (two left ears though) although Grandfather sounds maybe a bit muddy, went back to the original version and that suddenly sounded muddy as well so maybe I'm hearing things.
It's on the 2007 account, honest opinions please; we need to get this right.
After seeing what is in the massive blur box set coming out. I wonder if Pulp's record co. would consider doing something like this? We would surely get all the We Love Life stuff if they were to do a box set that in depth into the back catalog.
It's odd though, isn't it. Pulp seem to be more universally 'loved' than Blur...but they never really had the record says or commercial longevity. I mean, look at the various similarly placed bands of that era's best ofs. Blur's 2000 Best Of got to No. 3 (with 43 weeks on chart), Suede's 'Singles' comp got to No. 31, and even Dodgy's 1998 best of got to No. 55. Yet Pulp only managed No. 71 with 'Hits'. I don't think Island would have the confidence that a box set would sell very well at all...
