?uestlove's got a problem with Jarvis? Since when? They both seem like such lovely guys... Didn't even know they were on each others radar unless ?'s a huge MJ fan?

Reunited bands with nothing new to promote play Fallon occasionally. DC band Jawbox did it a few years ago, I think just because they reissued one of their old albums.
seems like an unlikely (or wrong) place to make any announcement. They do need to sell out the rest of Tuesdays show, as there are so many tickets left.

Could be that but there could something else as it's an honour to be on a late show really. I doubt NBC would just agree to have Pulp because they have tickets left to sell. Or Fallon is a fan, which is also highly likely.

I thought all the tickets for the American shows were snapped up pronto.
I think it's partially to promote the U.S. shows (particularly the NY ones; the Tues show isn't quite sold out yet, right?). But also, I think the U.S. shows have been selling briskly enough that there is a coolness factor coming into play, making the band something of a late-night get. Also, of all the late-night talk shows in the U.S., Fallon tends to get the best musical guests. I think partially because he's a music fan, but also I think he has the right demographic of viewers (people in their 20s and 30s).
Just got back from the taping. They played "Common People" for the show (with an Asian violinist who looked familiar but I couldn't place her), then "Like a Friend" for the website. They sounded great. I was surprised by "Like a Friend", but I guess those of you saying people know the song here might have been correct. The people in the "band benches" (fans who stand behind the band while they play) didn't seem like they were familiar with the song though.
I actually know who the violinist is. Her name is Jean Cook. She's played with American indie acts like Ida and Jenny Toomey. She's also in one of Jon Langford's (from the Mekons) side projects, which is my best guess as to how Pulp may have connected with her. Pretty sure she's also done jazz, classical, and experimental stuff.
I know her from her work mainly as a singer for a great, rather underrated band from Washington, DC, called Beauty Pill. I wrote an article after watching them record an album in an art gallery.
Actually we only sat through part of the show (thankfully didn't have to be herded in like the rest of the audience). I'm a fan of Jimmy Fallon, though, so it was not an imposition! My friend actually got a little choked up seeing them again after 16 years, we're very excited to see the shows at Radio City.
@jotibooth: Wonder how @questlove feels about Jarvis after he invaded MJ's stage back in the day
@questlove: @jotibooth lol if you knew the controversy askin that question last time he was here caused today. Jesus I thought I needed boxin gloves lol
I suppose I really don't get the MJ thing. Even people I know who like MJ will all admit he was OTT at the Brit Awards and that Jarvis' behaviour was justified and necessary.
I still remember the band 3T (Jackson's nephews) slagging off Jarvis on Live & Kicking in the days following the Brit Awards and being overcome by rage.
I can appreciate that if someone's main point of reference to who Jarvis is was "the Michael Jackson incident" they'd think he was a dick. Kind of like how I feel about that dick off The Voice.
Yeah, they were ok weren't they. Not outstanding or fantastic just ok. Better than just about everything else though, I'd rather see an ok Pulp than anyone else.
Questlove is the drummer in a band called "The Roots"
Also, The Roots are the house band for the show. So Questlove is like the Paul Shaffer of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Would have been funny if he'd mimicked the stunt, but he's an extremely large man (deceptively large, like Keith Olberman), so I imagine he's not nearly as sprightly as young Jarvis.
For some reason I also thought Hawley might be joining them for these shows. To tell the truth, I was still holding a tiny hope that Russell might surprise us all.
Was he really angry at Jarvis, or was it just an off-the-cuff remark that got blown out of proportion?
The roots aren't bad, but... ugh. Can you imagine if Pulp became the f-ing house band to.....um.... the Graham Norton show? (Yes, I had to google UK talk show host)

When I think of chat show bands, I get as far as 4 Poofs and a Piano! (Jonathan Woss, does he still have them now he's on ITV, haven't seen him for ages).
Similarly to you, I had never heard of Jimmy Fallon till this thread appeared.

Those bands are a big deal for late night in the US, but it's weird to have a touring and recording band becoming a late night band. Either it's good money or nobody cared about them anymore. Probably both.
No, their last album released before they started doing the show (just under a year before) did well critically and commercially. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_Down#section_3 I think they just like playing together every night.
Questlove is also pretty well known for his vast musical knowledge; he has a rowhouse in Philadelphia just for his record collection. They always play interesting walk-on music for the guests. Their intro for Michele Bachmann was brilliant: Roots Welcome Bachmann with 'Lyin' As* B*tch' on Fallon
I'm sorry if the guy was really upset (which i kinda doubt) about the MJ incident he cannot be taken seriously, no matter how big is record collection is
Just like to say that I thought these performances, especially Common People, were brilliant. Last time I saw Pulp play CP on US TV was on Letterman, and that version was much, much less exciting.
i don't know what it is about this performance, but this is one of my favourite performances of common people EVER. i've seen it live at least 30 times (sorry!) and on tv i don't know how many..... but i don't know what it is about this that makes it so good! it doesn't matter that steve's bass guitar is a bit muddy (don't stab me! i know it's not his fault, it's the sound) it's not the hip grinding, or the hand gestures, maybe it's just the simple things like jarvis untangling the microphone wire himself, the little grins, or is my favourite bit at the end when steve is smiling at nick for the last DOOF of the drums
Weener, I concur. I think it's something to do with the passion in Jarvis' delivery? He genuinely sounds like he's singing this for the very first time!
