I have faith that, if there is, it'll be full of progress and new ideas.
Perhaps more along the lines of Got to have Love, My Body may Die, or That Boy's Evil; or at least a similar leap to that which these songs may have promised.
Their career has been long and varied enough to embrace change. Whilst I was thrilled to see Portishead on the scene again, and enjoyed their new album, I don't think they'd be capable of the same. There'll almost certainly be another Portishead album, but my enthusiasm won't be the same. Not that this diminishes their sizeable achievements. They're more of a Portishead covers band now. Pulp are too wise to fall into that trap.
Can we have a third option for a Pulp release? I could imagine anything between three and seven tracks but, for some reason, not necessarily an album.
Superchob. I've tried time and again to get into 'Third' but just can't do so. I'm a huge fan of the first two Portishead albums so am wondering if I'm missing something. Care to recommend a track?
Stephen, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only person who was underwhelmed by Portishead's Third. It felt very monochromatic to me. I loved the way the '90s albums played off different genres and contrasted Beth's voice in all these weird settings. No more for that.
I just get the feeling, and I believe someone else has mentioned it, that they'll follow the blur line and release a new track every now and again but will never release an album. However I would love one and still hope for a late surprise Record Store Day release.
I expect there will be a new Pulp album, but that it need not necessarily be all new material or even newly recorded. There is definitely enough material for a rarities album or two.
I fully expect Jarvis to release an album of some sort in the next year or so, but that could be as Pulp, solo, Relaxed Muscle or some new guise.
WLL has the right concept but the wrong song selection. I'm not too worried about a new album, it'll be good. TBH, bands like Portishead don't have a long career and their songs, although good on the first two album, are not the main thing on here. It's the sound that made them. On Third, they didn't have either. Pulp has been making good record for 30 years, so there's 99,99% probability that it will be huge.
