What's he getting at here? I'm confused. Maybe I've missed the point entirely?

I'm guessing he meant that they aren't doing anything new (which wouldn't be strictly true in Blur's case), but who knows what goes on in that shiny head of his?

Yet another reason for me to loathe Chris Martin.

No worries, it's just another example of rubbish journalism from NME. Chris Martin actually likes Pulp and is very aware of their reuniun, check his comment at the start of this song:

And he's damn right.

Ah yes, I forgot about that comment, very nice thing of him to say :)

I suspect the NME have been very selective with their quote, in a bid to be controversial.

I can imagine in a situation like that where you have just won a bit award and some interviewer is trying to get you to agree you are indeed the greatest thing since sliced bread, unless you have the self-confidence of a Gallagher, you are going to fumble for something to play it down a bit somehow, making it all up on the spot.

And that's not a dig at the Gallaghers either, they just do have a remarkable ability to accept praise which is sometimes refreshing when such a lot of us are plagued with low self-esteem assuming any compliments we get must be not worth having or somehow flawed, to be able to say, yes, I have actually achieved something worthwhile is not a bad thing. I enjoyed watching Noel lapping it all up last night, playing along with the whole thing.
