Right, here we go. Happy Christmas/Birthday Pulp fans. It's the Sudan Gerri Session....live! And yes, that means Silence live. And the Will to Power (but who's doing backing vocals?). And an amazing rendition of Cousins. Easy listening this ain't. Cracking quality though, and pretty much uncirculated 'til now. Encoded as the highest possible quality mp3, likewise the Ping Pong Jerry stuff that follows. I'll get these enabled as wavs/flacs at some point, but I have a train very shortly and have only just managed to get these uploaded as they are in time. Hence the self-plagirised cover!
Obviously massive thanks to Nick from Dog Canute for recording this gig and also for allowing its distribution.
Really looking forward to hearing your comments. Once you get passed Simultaneous, anyway. That one's not great!
Please don't go bunging any of this on youtube or selling it or anything. Or I'll be pretty miffed.
"I'm acting out all the rock star bit. Telling you what the name of the song is and drinking my little bit of beer before I sing it. and now I've got my phallic symbol on. [strums guitar]"
Beat is the law 'lost gig' on with the sound off. Portfolio on loud. Warm beer. Stale Fag smoke. Queue for your own toilet. It'll enhance the experience :)
Blimey, wasn't expecting this! Happy Leap Year Day, indeed! I wonder what the members of Pulp, currently being treated like stars on a red carpet in London would make of their biggest fans having a geek-fest to an unearthed Hallamshire gig recording. Funny world in't it?!
Sterling work Stephen! I'll download and have a listen later in the week when I've a bit more time.
Is it played in order that it was recorded in the karate rooms? Accident or design?
Eamonn, I dread to think! Ps gig order is from the original. Sudan gerri order is as per pulpwiki. Not sure where it originates. Pps the pulpwiki for this gig now mentions nick taylor. I believe he wants to be credited as nick canute if someone can fix that?
Only one thing- next time, could you possibly order them in the metadata (like, right click and click 'get info' on iTunes) instead of numbering the tracks via the song title?

Regarding the Sudan Gerri track order on PulpWiki, it is probably correct. It comes from the order they appeared on John Nicholls's site, where they used to be available for download. I think John had a picture of the cassette case with the tracks listed too.
Well, I've had a couple of listens to this and it's great. "Blue Glow" and "Take You Back" are definite highlights for me (well, the more versions of "Take You Back" I have, the better ). As for "Silence", well it is scarier live as has been mentioned earlier.
Silence live...never thought it would darken our door (despite Jarvis' threatening to at Brixton). The faux uneasy-laugh before ''We'll still be good friends'' is fantastic. And the crowd seem awfully...polite. Sure it wasn't a winebar rather than a dingy pub where this was recorded?!
Yeah, it's just compared to the other 80's Pulp bootlegs, the sound quality on this is very impressive. A pity the '87 one from The Limit, when they played a really interesting set (with the line-up being somewhat in transition) isn't as clear and easy on the ear.
Gigs at the Hallamshire Hotel always took place in the upstairs room. It was long and narrow and accesed by a set of very narrow stairs. If you wanted a drink you had to go back downstairs again to the bar. That probably explains why it sounds so relaxed, with no chatting or clinking of glasses as you actually had to want to be up there! If my memory serves me correctly it had black painted walls, was very narrow, with a wooden floor and the stage was barely a foot high.
Simultaneous and Back in LA from the demo were switched in the download, we all noticed that and changed it probably, but newbies maybe don't know that, so just mentioning it.
