Starting at the start again with some new material. The new discoveries pushed the original volume one over the length of a CD. Thus we start with 'schoolboy Pulp'. Obviously (as usual) only those tracks not currently available in shops are included. And many thanks to 'anonymous girl pulpfan' for '...crabs'!!

I've edited the cover. So that it, y'know, actually features Pulp.

I think it's lovely. Well, even lovelier than before.

In the light of Steven Havenhand's 2012 version of a 1987 Pulp song, I'm wondering whether I should add one of Jarvis' c2010/2 versions of Shakespeare Rock and/or that other one (Life is a Circle) as 'bonus' tracks to the relevant portfolio (i.e. this one). I already need to rejig something on this anyway, so let's have your opinions!

Personally I don't know if it's worth the trouble. There are three different versions of "Shakespeare Rock" out there, only a verse of 'Life Is A Circle', and all would sound out of place this early on. If you're going to include these I'd say Portfolio # 1768 or whatever it is would be more fitting. If not then you might have to consider including later interviews where they talk about the 80s in the 80s portfolios - a bit of a mammoth editing task I wouldn't expect you to try.

Weej, indeed three versions there are. I think the best one is the 'songbook' one. I was just thinking of them as 'bonus tracks' at the end of CD #1 in order to give some colour to an era that is, frankly, entirely unrepresented.

But I am open to public opinion.

Similarly, I wouldn't include interviews wherein the 80s are spoken about but, if people liked the idea, I would include Steven Havenhand's wonderful gift as a similar bonus track on the relevant CD, were he to be amenable to its inclusion...

I think it would be nice to acknowledge include them in the portfolio project somehow or other - and as suggested above, a bonus CD might be the best idea for the 'anomalies'

If it was me, I'd maintain a separate 'Bonus tracks' portfolio, dedicated to such snippets.

It's up to you ultimately, I think what you're suggesting is opening yourself up to a lot more work/maintenance in the future. Don't make it a chore :)

Feel free Stephen, if you want to use it.

I agree with Blueowl, maybe a disc of bonuses at the end because potentially you're creating loads of extra work for yourself otherwise!

Well, consensus seems to be on the 'purity' of a purely chronological set, so that's what I'll stick with! Cheers for the input.

You could do an annex now if you want and add to that as you see fit if you don't want to wait till the end.

Cheers, Weed. Make sure you catch up before they go out of 'print' (or their download date expires)

Fred, etc. I won't be doing a bonus disc/annex etc. 'cos the only things I think are suitable enough to go on said disc would be Shakespeare Rock, Life is a Circle, and Mr. Havenhand's secret Pulp song. Not quite enough for a CD!

Bonus discs can be three tracks. Look at Souljacker by eels. I suspect most of us aren't putting the portfolios on disc anyway.

I have added two 'bonus' tracks to this 'release' if you are interested. Am currently going through the last batch of Portfolios and filling in the holes, and here is one of them being filled!

I had hoped to add some more things to this that would have made people squeal with delight, but the fates turned out to be against me at the 11th hour.

Current lack of a VPN means no Mediafire for me this week, I'm itching to find out what's on these, but will have to wait a little bit.

What are the two extras?

I'll write them in black in case anyone wants them to be kept a surprise. Highlight to see:

Shakespeare Rock (from 'Songbook') and an excerpt of Life Is A Circle (from his assembly at City School, Sheffield). They're in really good quality, much better than the YouTube rips I had in my collection.

Salmon, ironic really, because they are Youtube rips!! Maybe I have better software.

I decided against public opinion re: 'bonus tracks' as I think, given the huge lack of early Pulp that's currently available, it made sense to have these two representations on there.

There wasn't meant to be any secrecy, I just hadn't been arsed loading the new sleeves onto Photobucket...!

Yeah, perhaps I ripped them in low quality as opposed to high quality. I'm all for representations of the content where the original is not available; it still provides the same insight into how Pulp sounded at the time. They'll be a most welcome addition to my collection, that's for sure. Many thanks.

I thought it was a good idea to have these included. I'm curious how they'd sound with the rest of the band though. What are the 2 other versions of Shakespeare Rock like?
