Well, wil he? He plays the bass on Death Comes to Town doesn't he? I noticed that on the free CD that came with Beats Working for a Living the bass is credited to Steve Mackay. I've never really understood why Havenhand doesn't get some songwriting credit for all those Separations songs he was involved with?

I did mention this to Fire so maybe. On the other hand, there is some question as to whether he actually plays on the released version of DCTT - he maintains he does, but Nick and Alan Smyth have both said they remember Jarvis overdubbing bass on that track. Who knows what the truth is. It certainly doesn't sound very different from the bass on the live recording from the Limit, which is definitely Havenhand!

As for the Separations songs, I agree it does seem sort of odd that Steve M gets a co-writing credit when most of the songs were written before he joined. But then the 5-way split was always more of a political thing than a result of each member of the band contributing equally to the writing process. Nick probably didn't write much of it either! I suspect that if Steven H (or, indeed, Antony Genn or Captain Sleep) had played a notable part in writing those songs then he would have been credited.

Is Mr H still around to comment on any of this?
