Christ's chin!!!

Sturdy should be able to verify the fella's credentials from your description.
Whereabouts was the pub and most importantly, what were you doing boozing on a midweek afternoon? ;)
Good work dixie.

As wonderful as this is to read about - and it really does seem to be a step or two above the normal 'rumour mill' sort of stuff, I think we should be thinking about something else entirely atm...

...as great news is it is that  [scene edited], I think they would be absolutely gutted if the news broke. Consider the extent to which they've micromanaged the reunion thus far - only communicating by twitter feeds (and not even, to Russell's apparent chagrin, talking to fanzines) and everything has gone successfully and they've kept the air of mystique. It's been a wonderfully planned operation that has kept them interesting and stopped them from being just another heritage act doing the rounds.

I think that's why we should try and avoid anyone getting hold of this story - personally I would suggest editing the first post on here slightly to remove the [scene edited] reference. We know the rumour, but do we want it to really 'get out there'? Think how awful it would be for the NME or something to latch onto this and stick it out as a news article thus destroying the secrecy that  [scene edited]

These are just my thoughts, though. Feel free to disagree! I just think Pulp's secrecy should be respected with regards to such massive news as this...

The pub is called The Roebuck in Leyland. Hahaha I was having a crafty pint en route home. He is mid to late 30s tall black hair, quite well spoken but that could just be the accent coming through in a new area - ive no reason to dispute what he said, he didnt say how he knew or whatever - but he just said " they are DEFINATELY making a new album". Ill put my hand up right away and if this info proves to be false, then im sorry for causing anyones distress - but for a random person / conversation to turn out like this did - it seemed too good not to tell folk.

And for someone thats not a huge pulp groupie to know about The Beat Is The Law, further backs this up - im gonna go in again next week.

I don't specifically remember anyone fitting that description being at the launch, but then the pub was open to the public so it's possible.

Who are you Dixie? Have we met?

Well of course they are. Every next of their move points towards it. (good news, if true)

dont you think mass music medias would know if Pulp was recording an album ? And there would be an embargo. I work in the press (not music) and that kinda embargo is very common...

Andy,

Do remember that Pulp are at present without a record deal. And they, presumably, have quite a lot of money between them. Think of the financial rewards for financing such a project themselves (thus taking all the time they need) and then leasing the resultant product to a record label. Or releasing it themselves.

They would stand to gain a lot more financially and earn more with one such product than they would have earned off everything they'd previously released.

An example of how well this works is that the Zombies (who, pretty much alone of their contemporaries followed this path in the 60s) are one of the richest of the 60s bands despite not having produced the quantity of hits to rival a lot of their poorer contemporaries.

I could easily see Pulp doing this off their own back.

I copied the message for the people who missed it just before it was cut. /sad

I'll pm you three and then you can redistribute that yourselves if other people ask for it.

*Don't get too excited, it's the most interesting 'scoop' we've heard but who knows if it turns out to be true.

yeah dixie is magic, isnt he/she the one who shared the WLL demos ? I mean, we can trust the guy/girl. Roll on the SCENE MISSING (i love that :D), maybe in the spring ? that would make sense given Coachella announcement and the rest of the european tour to follow.

Thanks - I'll try to send it on but my Bar Italia is being a bit faulty too - if the page loads at all it takes forever. The private message page has been opening for the past hour.
Anyway this is absolutely brilliant news! I really hope it's not just a rumour and it does sound like first hand information so fingers crossed

Trixy is not Dixie.

Call me a killjoy, but my feeling on this is that, until there's an official statement to the contrary, there is no new Pulp material. The rest is speculation and tittle tattle.

This is exciting news but something bothers me: The Phantom Menace.

It worried me before the reunion too but all turned out for the best. A bullet wasn't so much dodged as world peace was declared and all guns were melted down. But the awful thing about The Phantom Menace is that it never goes away. Once Jar-Jar and that mop-headed muppet were brought into conciousness, there was no stopping them.

David Mitchell put it quite nicely in his column/radio show/TV appearance (he's even worse than Brian Cox, the tart). It went something like this. Star Wars fans longed to hear the back story of Anakin's demise. They wanted all the little references to 'the Clone Wars' and the 'Old Republic' to be fleshed out. When the prequels were announced everyone went crazy.

Something went wrong.

Ask a child if it wants more ice-cream and it will always say "yes". But then it will eat so much ice-cream that it'll be sick all over your jeans. That's because children don't know what's best for them. Star Wars brought out the child in me. And Pulp... Pulp do too.

So please, please ye Gods, if there is another Pulp album please fill it only with the best things.

Please don't fill it with 'Angelas' and 'Pilchards', because though I'll nod my head and tap my feet and sing "m-m-m-m-ma ma, m-m-m-m-ma ma" in all the right places, I'll be sad on the inside.

I'll probably become even more of a Pulp Dogmatist than I am now. I'd cover my disappointment by being the album's biggest advocate.

I'd carry two copies on me at all times so that I could give one away if someone doesn't happen to own it. I'd put each song on 'repeat' on the office stereo for days at a time, pointing out little nuances that I'll invent if I have to. I'd develop an annoying habit of speaking only in song titles. I'd only wear black silk shirts and skinny silver trousers. They won't suit me.

I'm still going to get excited and check back here daily. But guys, we're making a Faustian pact here. We'll get our shiny disc, but we must accept all that rides with it...

Great news...and it backsup a snippet from an interview / article in NME a few weeks back where a female artist accidentaly let let leak.

That the band have made someone not in the band aware of this information could point towards them wanting it to be leaked in the form of online rumours (maybe it was deliberate?)

Thought I agree until something is official I believe we should respect the band and keep it to ourselves!
