Just seen the tweet too. Presumably this is the "something in spring". And there was a thread recently about Russell saying he could talk to someone in February or something?

There must be some new material on the way. They can't possible play all these shows and have nothing new.

I doubt we ever see any new material, as much as I would like to get it, but I would love to see one of those 20 song sets. If they do play Coachella, I will do that and then go to whatever proper gig they do here, presumably at least a warmup in Pomona but hopefully two nights in New York.

Yes!

This is my first full day at work since getting my redundancy notice on Friday, so smiles have been few today. But this raised a big one.

Maybe they knew and wanted to make me happy.

Whilst also making me stressed thinking about future gig prices...!

Random Prediction Time.

Pulp to do UK tour. Go-Kart Mozart support.

Not to be taken seriously. But then again I did have that dream....

It seems like Russell is coming though so I think that might bode well for some additional shows because why make poor Russell fly all the way to America just to play Coachella.
Also I have a hefty fund put aside to see Pulp because I'm pretty much banking on that they're only going to play like the biggest cities five or more hours from where I live but I HAVE TO SEE THEM.

Fingers crossed for NYC or LA

Why not dish out for the trip to Coachella? Pulp and Radiohead in one weekend...

If Russell does make it he'll get a whole week in Palm Springs to buy up all the glass and midcentury goodness in Palm Springs. :)

I get the sad feeling that if Russell is making the trip to the USA, it must be a special reason for him to do that. Perhaps the finality of the upcoming gig(s) is the reason. I still pray for a UK tour and/or new material.

Having said that, perhaps the band had a change of heart and swayed towards a more lengthy stay than just a year. I can dream.

I can't imagine that Pulp, the most quintessentially British of all bands, would have their final gig at an American festival! No, there's definitely more to come after this.

I share all these sentiments, I can only dream of such a trip regardless of if I had the cash or not. I do hope I get to see them one last time, despite me being the only Pulp fan I know. Wherever they play in the UK, I'll be there.

There's no chance they won't do anything in Europe now Coachella has been annonced. I'm thinking they will at least tour in England and probably beyond - didn't Jarvis say something about French concerts in the spring?

Oh my, I have mixed feelings!!!
The Brixton shows in September were the peak, it can never get any better than those two shows, at least not for me, it was absolutely incredible, the selection of songs, everything.

I would say, yes a farewell gig in Sheffield would do nicely indeed!!!

I do think that if they were to do a massive tour, what we lived last year would loose a bit of magic if anyone else actually understands me!

love to all.

I'm thinking similar things legendarygirlfriend, as seeing Pulp at Leeds for the first time was probably one of the highlights of my life, and even now when I think about it I get all happy. To think that anything else they do might not match up to that scares me, as in a tour like you said.

Although I think I'd love to go to one final gig, where I can get all Pulped up with fellow Pulp fans, of which I'm going to have to meet more of aww

Yeah, I understand that too. Of course I want to see more Pulp, but don't think anything will ever top the excitement of seeing them comeback last year, and to keep that experience as my final memory of seeing them live would very special. But having said that, I'll still be gutted if they announce Coachella is the last one. Given that I don't even possess a passport (or a penny to my name at the moment), it's out of my league.

Hello everyone!I understand the scepticism of some, but lets not exclude the possibility of a new record (despite what the band have said so far).I mean just because its been a long time,it doesnt mean they cant produce equally great and exciting music.i d love to hear there s a prospect of having a go at new songs and if satisfied with the result considering a release.(similar to what suede did, though i haven't heard of an outcome)
I mean come on,this planet NEEDS more good music!

Dear Spacesoup,

I have a listen to the Suede 'outcome'.

Place head in hands.

And put 'Coming Up' or 'Suede' on the hi-fi.

And forget about the outcome.

If you're genuinely interested though, you can find their new stuff on youtube if you search for Suede and St. Petersberg (Petersburg?) which is where they unveiled several new songs the other month.

I would love to see Pulp one day, since I would love to hear those songs live.

But I am a bit cautious with 'comeback' tours: I once say The Verve on their 2007 or 2008 comeback tour and I wasn't too impressed to say the least. I even found Stereophonics, who played before them on Pinkpop, more enjoyable to watch and I didn't enjoy any of their albums since 2003.

I never understand why peeps compare bands in that way. Blur are Blur, The Verve are The Verve, Suede are Suede and Pulp are Pulp. Different bands consisting of different people with different music and different songs. Just because one band does one thing it bares no relationship with another band doing their thing.

I don't mean that to seem stroppy or anything. I'm genuinely intrigued as to why people do it as it makes no sense to me?!

Weed,

Apologies - I was just having a bit of fun being overly dramatic about the Suede stuff!

Similarly - Verve and Stereophonics. Heck! The only good thing about seeing the Stereophonics live for me is that the band that followed them were Rialto. It helped lower my expectations so much that the glorious Rialto were even better than they would otherwise have been!

Dear Stephen,

thanks for that,I 'll check it out although I'm not in favour of any of their work after butler left.
However my point was that they could try it out and release stuff only if it felt good.
Anyway, sorry for bringing that up in the first place, and I do believe that Pulp are a class of it's own,and could indeed come up with something brilliant.

Even if Pulp made a new record, I think it would be very hard for them to avoid playing their old hits on their concerts (if they
did a tour) some people would only go to hear disco 2000 etc. and they would have the risk of becoming an "heritage act".

It's a known fact you can't please every fan all the time! ;)

But there were tonnes of 'hits' each nite of Brixton. Personally, there are certain songs I wish they'd played. MLG, Help The Aged @ Acrylic Afternoons spring to mind.
Bands usually play their best known songs at the end even when they have new records out, I don't think they need to worry about becoming a heritage act when they can just play a couple of encores after the main set to keep the casuals happy.

I wonder how extensive any UK tour would be. For example, would Cardiff be included? Not many bands come here, so it'd be a shame if Pulp didn't on their final tour.

..."The Year We Get Some Answers"?

Surely new material?

Yes, they're taking it "over the Atlantic", but if we're not "getting off that lightly" then presumably they're not going to spend 2012 playing DYRTFT followed by Monday Morning followed by Razz followed by Underwear and so on. Of course, a UK tour in smaller venues with a lesser emphasis on DClass would be an exciting supplement to an OUTSTANDING 2011...

Please-please-please, let it be the European tour as well. I don't want to battle for UK tickets with London olympics visitors and striving for the UK visa (Have you engaged in any other activities that might indicate that you may not be considered a person of good character? In times of either peace or war have you ever been involved in, or suspected of involvement in, war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide?). These are the questions they ask all tourists in the general visa application.

I'd say that, for now, they're simply taking last year's tour to the States. However, doing so reveals an appetite for more, and that being the case you can only play the same material for so long. Perhaps that'll be new songs, or perhaps they'll tour individual albums, who knows. But it will be fun finding out!

I guess that when they re-book a venue that they've already played, or appear again at a festival from last year - that's when we'll find out what's going to happen.

Hang on, why do people on here seem to be so sure that Russell is going to come to America? Doesn't all the evidence point otherwise?

I think it's entirely down to the "Can we beat our phobias" line?

Other than that, I wouldn't even begin to believe it!

I do hope those who will only be seeing Pulp at Coachella do get to see Pulp though, rather than the 80% of the band who played most of the European festivals.

Well, judging by that private gig last christmas, Russell wont be part of that reunion

Andy, I wouldn't bet on that too heavily. I get the impression that, if the gig is 'right' - i.e. UK festivals, gigs etc., then Russell will be onboard. Remember that all of Pulp bar Nick and Russell live in London and Nick, being still a performing musician with several other bands, is more likely to drop his Sheffield-based plans and turn up to a private party to play.

I think private parties by YBAs and the like contributed to Russell leaving in the first place. I can see why he wouldn't be bothered to do them again.

I think the concept of private gigs are a bit cringe-worthy and can understand completely why Russell opted out

If a private gig's for your friends, then fair enough. I wouldn't doubt that someone in Pulp knows Damien Hirst quite well and, let's be fair, there are a lot worse celebs to be playing for.

It's hardly the Heineken thing again (Russell's last gig) or the Action Man Launch Party (Russell's 'tipping point' if I remember correctly)

Did they announce before the Australian shows that Russell would not be there?

The advertising promo/flyers etc. showed the DC line-up, with Russell having been removed.

Not sure how reliable this is, but a user on efestivals claims to have been told Pulp are planning a show at Park Hill Flats in Sheffield.

First step of my prediction: Russell not here for 2012 shows. Check.

Second step: new album. Check ?

Just because he isn't there for shows in the U.S doesn't mean he won't be there at all! I was so sure he would be there - apparently the answer to 'can we conquer our phobias?' is no.

Where does it say that Russell won't be performing on the American dates this year?

I think he will. There's no tight schedule to keep to before hand so he can take the boat if he wants to.

Again, i hope he's part of it, but isnt too complicated to have him for some of the tour and not the rest ? As a musician, it would be a pain in the arse for me to have a half member in the band.

True, but that would only apply to the NYC date. There's no way he could make it to Indio, California in time without flying.

That being said, neither the Mexico City nor San Fransisco websites have a advert with Russel in it. Radio City does. Not sure if that means anything or if Radio City are just using old pictures.

So he's not flying at all ? Looking at the tour dates, seems highly unlikely that he's gonna do it without taking a plane. Unless they invented time travel or holograms.

Regarding Russell's absence, these sites would all like to disagree. Not sure how valuable that is, but still...
