It indeed has been missed. I was thinking you were getting all esoteric and had decided to stop the blog at the point where Pulp became popstars.

Teacher shortage means I'm effectively doing two jobs at once, plus just moved to the other side of the country with wife and kid, who needs to be taken to kindergarden every day, have to plan for trip to the UK including visas, and due for another baby later in the year plus a series of bad colds, seriously fuck March, glad it's over, hopefully April will be much easier.

All basically just my business, don't want to moan about it, just an explanation.

Do You Remember The First Time? (I've been away long enough that this feels like a reunion gig. Will endeavor to get these up every week now, though UK trip in a few weeks may elicit another pause)

Oh, and... how do people feel about me giving the songs scores out of ten? It's reductive, it's true, but it's a good discussion starter.

It's an indulgence you deserve given your heroic endeavours with the blog. However I will be quite sad when (I fear) you give fives to Something Changed and Bob Lind.

Hello weej,

finally!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so glad, when I saw "the noreply Email" in my account. It's amzaing how many "Dyrtft-links" you've found. Especially the interview was very nice. So how many points would you give to the song? Sometimes I think it's my perfect 10, because it makes me feel high from the first note. Hearing these notes in the concert must have been an experience I...well I only can be jealous. I'm curious what you will write about the movie. For me as a foreigner it would be great, if you can write a little bit about the interviewpartners, because I just knew John Peel and the singer of the "Specials"

I don't think it's a good idea. I think that ratings can be misinterpreted and will encourage readers to rank songs alongside each other rather than thoroughly reading the content. I think, on some occasions, it will be the first thing they look at in favour of the actual review.

(That's just my two pennies worth, I will still read it regardless of there being a rating)

I think there's Justine Frischmann from Elastica and Candida's mother. As another foreigner I'm afraid I can't recognise anyone else in there.

Weej, sorry for posting the same out-of-topic content again but is there really going to be a screening in Guangzhou?

Sorry, I was joking about that. Who knows, though, if someone organized it do you think anyone would go?

I think there will at least be five or six of them. Why don't you come to Shanghai though? There's going to be two screenings and I'm going to both. Tuesday and Sunday next week.
BTW: Sorry if the email thing from one of my friends disturbed you. When I told them about the possibility and the fact that I got no reply from you here, she thought it might be more convinient to contact you in that way.

I can't edit the post on my phone, but I think I need to add that the one on 17th June is sold out. (Good thing, isn't it? I had to get up early for it.)

Hahahaha, I love it!
Oh weej, thank you so much, it was such a joy to read this text. I could say more nice things, but last weekend in Sheffield I've learned, that it's better to say:" It's alright."

Really interesting to read the short vitas of the people in the film, now it's much easier for me to classify them. And the links in it are very helpful too.
By the way, Panther, her friend and me were last week on the patch of grass and the bandstand and did a little minute's silence.

There are seriously going to be screenings in China? Consider my mind blown. Unfortunately I can't fly to Shanghai, it's all I can do to find a spare hour these days, and broke too.

Mine too, but it's true! That's why I believed you when you said that there was going to be another one in Guangzhou. It's still days before next Sunday so take your time to consider it. It's the Shanghai International Film Festival. I'd be glad to help if you had plans.

In fact, it made me unable to sleep for days. First noticed that on the film's official site, and then had to get up early for a better seat. And hurriedly bought a second ticket when the first sold out and the second was added. Much more people than I imagined.

Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, and this may sound like I'm being biased, (haha) but I remember reading on an interview on Giles's site that DYRTFT? was one of the first songs Mark contributed to in the recording sessions? I think it was from a fanzine interview in 1995.

Yep, here it is.

I wish I had the money and time to fly off to Shanghai at a week's notice. :(

Sarah - thanks for the info, hadn't seen that interview before. I'll be talking more about Mark fairly soon of course!

David's Last Summer - think I can start getting these out every week again if I practice a bit of brevity. Do I really need six quotes and three pictures? Anyway, worth it for one of my favourite songs.

Don't mind waiting for lengthier essays. Will bulk-up the collection for its eventual hardback release in 2020.
