Inspired by the off topic part of the beard thread.

Which songs do members think would most benefit from Russell's violin (hypothetically of course) being added to them on TIH & WLL? It strongly feel that much of WLL would sound wonderrful with Violin, especially Wickerman, Weeds, Trees, Sunrise and TIH I'm not so sure, Seductive Barry, The Fear perhaps.

I've always found it ironic and a shame that he didn't get to work on the title track to This Is Hardcore, one of the most experimental, and best, things they ever did.

A little Slovakian violin could turn "This is the Night" into a great song.

Liltman, I don't think Russell would have worked that well on TIH - it's got an orchestra (thus violins, sure) but Russell's unique violining 'style' wouldn't, I feel, have fitted. Unless it was in more of an I Spy way and was angrier...

One of the most amazing experiences was seeing him come back onstage at Brixton and playing violin on Wickerman (to Mark's amusement). Unfortunately, his amp was turned way down and it was only through being so close to it that I was able to hear the wonderful parts he was playing - it doesn't seem to have filtered through to the bootleg very well.

So yeah, I'd love to hear him on Wickerman again. What else? Hmm...Like a Friend with Russell as opposed to Mark on guitar would be a lot more Intro-ish and pop, I think.

Not sure how much else I think he'd be appropriate for. Maybe that's why I don't like the post-Russell era anything like as much!

PS I'd have given a leg to have had Russell involved in Relaxed Muscle though :)

Oops, should have made myself clearer, I agree Stephen that his violin wouldn't have worked, I was thinking more of his guitar playing, or just an input into the structure of the song really

I think Russell might have worked on We Love Life, but TIH is so distinctly separate from Pulp with Russell to me. I just feel like he wouldn't fit in on that album nearly as well. It seems strange to even think of him on it.

I can imagine Russell's input would go very well with After You... kind of a weird one, but I'd love to hear that.
