A few months ago I had in mind the idea of starting the ultimate Pulp project, namely collecting everything that was recorded by them, cataloguing them, and pressing them up into a lovely library. I also wanted my work to achieve two aims:
1) To get more stuff out into the public domain
2) To influence those who may be 'hanging onto' stuff to also let it out into the public domain. If just one person capitulates with some of their ultra-rate/unique bootlegs then maybe someone else will too?
The project has taken a bit of a battering due to me losing everything with the loss of my poor old hard-drives, but I've just started again from scratch. Thus I present to you the Pulp Portfolio Volume One. Obviously I don't have all the Ken Patten/Spice demos, but the three tracks here are as good a start as any.
Two *really* important notes - the copyright material (It/Peel tracks) aren't included in the linked download. For obvious reasons.
Secondly, if there is anything I've missed out from this CD, I'm more than happy to add tracks and change the design. So if you've got anything hiding away, do get in touch.
This first volume contains all that is - I believe - currently available from the pre-Russell incarnations. Enjoy.
PS: the file includes both cover and reverse.
PPS: I'm open to any suggestions/offers/help with this project. Yes, it will take a few years, but yes, it will be worth it.
PPPS: Download, add the missing tracks in the right order, burn, print and file. More soon...!
You know I remain unconvinced that this stuff is out there in anything but lossy format! However, I am, and will always be, eternally grateful to the people who make it available. In the absence of lossless Im just happy to have heard it.
Alphi - not lossy, no. I still have yet to hear a good quality mp3 that doesn't sound perfectly sound to my ears.
But maybe this is 'cos I grew up with 'real audio' :)
Obviously it's a shame to not have had the '82 Bath Uni gig to put on here, but I still think it's a good start.
Unless anything new comes to my attention, the next one will have the two 'Bad Maureen' tracks, and the Sudan Gerri and Ping Pong Jerry Demos. That's 18 tracks from Jan - November 1984.
Again, not many from '84 that I've seen. These appear to be though:
(in the second one, the one of Manners might be from slightly later but the one of Tim will definitely be from '84. Not sure about Candida and Magnus.)
(This one seems to be from the same set as the one of Tim above.)
The first two are from Record Collector Jan 96 - can't remember where I got the other one from, maybe the edition of Pulp People from when Russell left?

Mark and Will - thanks for the help. As you two are the Hunter Davies and Mark Lewisohn of the Pulp world, it's very useful and flattering for you to help out with this.
I think I'll try and go for a composite shot to get all the band in for this next one.
Fred, I've included the first Peel session on the tracklist (as they should go on the CD) but I didn't feel it would be fair or right to upload them for free consumption being as they're currently available to buy.
If you want to make and burn the CD, you can burn/download those tracks to add to their demo-like companions and have the whole chronological experience!
Cheers, Andy! Do feel free to contribute, though - although I'm fairly sure I've got the chronology right, I am aware that some tracks might slip through the cracks, so do keep an eye out!
I would but i really got nothing to share. All the rare stuff i got, i got from here and the baritalia account. There might be odd tracks from japanese releases (and even that...), but i dont think that's allowed.
