Hello,

Following the recent death of my computer, I'm trying to piece together my Pulp collection once again. I'm currently a little confused over the versions of Manon that are out there, though. What differences should I be looking for to try and decide whether I've downloaded the original "pre-reworking" version...?

Original = Imminent 4 and Masters of the Universe comp. Has a bit of hiss and a barely audible guitar string being plucked before the start

'New' version = Master of the Universe 12" only. Different vocal take I think, more reverb and just generally a bit better.

Cheers for that, Mark. Based on your description, I'm not entirely sure I've heard the 'new' version!

That wasn't actually a hint, but thank you very much indeed, Sir!

I like this a lot more than t'other version, actually. I think the only place where it's worse is at the start where Jarvis sounds a little bunged up - 'Banon' indeed. But everything else about it really is superior. Can't believe I'd not heard it before.

Interestingly, my new fangled Windows Media Player shows this as coming from the 'Pulped' boxset. Did it? I thought it wasn't available on any comps...

As far as I know the Pulped box set would just have a straight copy of the Masters of the Universe CD, so you're right, it wouldn't be this version on it. Hopefully Fire will see sense and put it on the new version of Freaks when it finally materialises.

this is completely different to the pulped version...... if you listen closely i think u will find that its an entirely new mix or recording from that time.... listen to the guitars in the last ten seconds.....

I do love that video version. Does anyone know where that fits into the chronology? Obviously the original (and common) version comes from June '85 and this rather ace remake from June 1986, but how about the video?

Ah, October 1985. Right. Thank you, Pulpwiki!
