Just had this from the "Secret Cinema" mailing list:
Dear friends of Secret Cinema,
I'm afraid the time has come for the Secret Cinema mailing list to close its doors.
Secret Cinema began in 2001, at a moment when there was a new resurgence of interest in avant-garde film and video. Screenings were infrequent and took place in a wide variety of venues all over London, so I felt it was important that there should be a simple way for people to find out about upcoming events.
That situation has changed - in the past few years, what we now know as artists' moving image has flourished into a far more accessible art form with an abundant culture of screenings, performances, events and exhibitions. The internet and social media now provide so many more channels for people to follow these activities.
Following this year's London Film Festival, I may occasionally send out announcements of screenings that I'm personally involved in, but there will no longer be the regular emails on behalf of others. People will be able continue to subscribe or remove themselves from the list using the yahoo groups page.
During the past decade, Secret Cinema has sent out over 800 hundred announcements for screenings and events organised by myself, LUX, no.w.here, Tate, BFI, Whitechapel, ICA and elsewhere. I hope that you've been able to discover and experience many wonderful things by following these emails, and thank you very much for your support.
