One of the most infamous sources of rumors about the fest thinks so:

Jarvis mentioned shows in the Spring...Coachella is in April...
If they do it Russell will probably not be there though, how very sad.

ATP has been moved to March. Probably too big for an ATP there? I know they would be perfect for an American one.

I don't think ATP has a budget anywhere close to the budget Coachella has...

If this happens, they will also do a couple more cities too, yes? Definitely need a full set. Would die if they played "Like a Friend". Anyone have any new info?

I wish they would just announce some spring dates so I would know if they're even coming to America at all and try and schedule all my grad school interviews around it. Being a Pulp fan is going to give me an ulcer.

You would think they would, wouldn't you?  I passed on seeing Suede at Coachella last year (wandering around desert with shirtless drunken strangers: no thank you), assuming they would do more shows and they didn't bother, which is still a mystery to me...

I remember similiarly telling myself 'aw, I'll see Sleater-Kinney the next time they come around' - one month later they announced they were breaking up. Still kicking myself for that one...

Whats wrong with drunken shirtless strangers? One of them might be Jarvis! wink

I think the amount of people who watched that set completely justified Suede's desicion not to do more shows...

Bort, you're just going to have to accept that it's very, very unlikely that Pulp are going to play in the US, but if they don't it's not some personal attack on you/Americans.

Did Suede not have a good turnout at Coachella? I thought they had a good response (albeit in a tent; still find it kind of obscene that they didn't have a proper stage slot). Though I don't know anyone who actually went, which might be saying something...
If they had Coachella somewhere paved, where a girl wouldn't have to worry about getting her heels stuck in the mud, and with lots of seating options, I might consider suffering the weather. Until then I'll (probably) only attend if someone is paying me to attend. Or if Pulp plays.
My latest hope/dream/delusion is that Blur and Pulp are going to tour the U.S. together in the spring. Don't rain on my parade, Calum.

Mud? It has never rained a drop there. What you have to worry about is sunburn and dust, which isn't nearly as bad as it would be at something like Burning Man, but definitely sunnier and drier than your average UK festie.

Coachella is a great festival. The layout is quite sane and the crowds are generally pleasant, and despite the desert heat there are lots of shade stations where it is instantly 30 degrees cooler because the desert air is weird like that. I've sworn off both Pitchfork and Lollapalooza here in Chicago (I'd eat those words for Pulp only if I had no other option to see them) but I'd go back to Coachella just to go.

It helps that it's a dry heat. If you're in the shade and it's not a packed tent, the heat vanishes. In 2010 it was surprisingly cloudy throughout the weekend.

Mud, dirt, whatever. I have been to Coachella a couple of times, and I know they run it much more efficiently now than most other festivals in the U.S. I just don't find festivals (shorter/hits-focused sets, crowded, dirty, expensive, etc.) very appealing. They are generally not very nice places for someone with a fear of crowds and denim...
I'd deal with all of it for Pulp, in any case.

Yeah, if Pulp is there, I'm there. If not, I'm selling my presale pass and putting the money towards going wherever Pulp plays. And speaking of which:

"Can we conquer our phobias?"

I hope that, for the sake of those who didn't see them elsewhere last year, that he can. When Coachella was announced I thought, "So, is this the end of Russell's involvement now?" and was thinking how, although I might see them again as a five piece, I really wouldn't be too bothered to seeing 80% of Pulp playing The Hits yet again. But maybe this is a good sign...?

my sister lives in america and is terrified of flying. the last time she came over to the uk her husband bought her a cruise to get home! then they had to drive from wherever they docked on the east side all the way through to arizona. maybe russell will be sailing over, it only takes 5 days!

That's how Bowie commuted between US and UK (I'm guessing when time permitted). He's not a very good flyer either.

Wow, that would take 5 days on a ship to get to the east coast, then at least 3 days on a bus with double drivers to get to Palm Springs...that would be pretty hardcore...

Beg your pardon, I don't understand.

Coachella is taking place over two weekends this year, and Pulp are scheduled to play both weekends. Does that mean weekend 2 is just a repeat of the same line-up as weekend 1? Does a single ticket get you into both weekends?

I find this all very strange. Aren't festivals supposed to be magical once-in-a-lifetime events?

Yes, weekend 2 is a repeat of weekend 1.  A ticket gets you access into only 1 weekend.

This is the first time they're trying this, I think the reasoning is to accommodate more people. Maybe it makes the festival more appealing to bands as well (having a week to settle in, probably getting paid twice as much), since they put a lot of effort into enticing bands that aren't doing every other festival in the country. I think Coachella stands out from all of the other festivals here, with the unique lineups, well-organized grounds (so I hear), and since people can actually camp out and get the true festival experience. Most festivals here aren't as well-established as the festivals in Europe.

Both weekends sold out within 3 hours. Next year will inevitably sell out both weekends in a blind presale. They finally made Coachella their American Glastonbury.
