Ok, so the question is (and I apologise to everybody with a similar thread).  Not what was that you first Pulp tune you heard, or the tune that you first bought. But I want to know:

The first tune that you KNEW you were into Pulp more than other people.

For me:

I was on a trip to Lincolnshire with my Dad to see my Grandma.  He had grown up near Skegness, and we were paying a trip to up there.  After I bought Different class (my 1st album - probably bought in 1997) I was on the hunt for some other tunes by the band.  We popped into Skeggy and I found this great little music shop (not sure if it was genuinely great, but I was 14 at the time, easily pleased).  Literally, the only other Pulp album they had was Pulp:Intro so I had that one for a cheeky £8.  I had my discman at the time and I remember playing it while we were in the car.  First of all there was Space (a track that I have to admit, I skipped; although now one I love).  But then there was O.U.  I remember it was like, pure and simple, the best thing I had ever heard.  The story of a guy who was letting a girl get away (to a 14 y/o - unimaginable). It paved the way for the rest of the album, and from that song onwards I knew there were other lyrical gems to be found, and I never stopped.  Stories welcome

I think for me it was when I first listened to feeling called love on headphones, it was suddenly no longer just catchy music it was a full experience, I'd never really noticed stereo effects before. I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever heard. I used to sit in my bedroom and listen to it on repeat. Which wasn't as easy as that sounds now because I had it on cassette!

I think I was really drunk when I first realized. Is that absurd? Different Class was all I wanted to listen to and after that I listened to them non-stop for months and months so there was pretty much no going back.

19th November 1993, Pulp on The Word performing Lipgloss. Completely blew me away, like a door was opened, a light was turned on, the scales fell from my eyes etc, etc. It wasn't even a conscious decision, it just felt natural, like there'd never been a point in my life when I hadn't been aware of them. I was able to see them live the very next night at the Leadmill and, I've told this story before on here, I was front row, dead centr; rapt, shook Jarvis hand when they came on stage. Never looked back, been obsessed ever since.

I think it was after I heard His n Hers for the first time. Or watched Sorted for Films and Vids and saw the Pre-Common People videos, especially Razzmatazz. But I think the moment I new I was really REALLY hooked was watching Blouse on Brass Eye, and getting all the references to the promo videos!

My Dad had a compilation CD, "The Best...Anthems...In The World...Ever!!", which had Disco 2000 on.
We used to go & watch drag racing frequently, & I loved it.
Then I suddenly found myself staying in the caravan all day & playing the song on repeat, instead of watching the racing!
It wasn't until years later that I realised that the revving noise on the 7" mix was actually on the record, not coming from the nearby pits...!
