Inside Pulp's (temperory)rehearsal studio. Where did they get the money for all this?! Great close ups of the legendary neon sign. I always wanted to know where it was actually kept- any ideas?

all that vintage furniture must have cost a hell of a lot (probably would have been just as comfy on IKEA sofas). Still looks very cool! Is that a list of all the songs they might have played or just all of their songs?

I like the way that it's classed as secret. But on the other hand, there's the bands name in 8ft neon lights!
I wonder if this is the original, or a replica lighting fixture? If it is the original, where have they stored it over the last 10 or more years??
I have visions of Jarvis saying "Er, Yeah, I'd let you stop over in the spare room, but there's no space as there are four 8ft letters in it!"

I'm sure the vintage furniture was rented from this Bullet company or some kind of set design warehouse, and the old neon letters (they look about the right size as the originals, don't they?) were probably stored in the same place where their gear was stored all these years.  Looove the houndstooth-y sofas...think I've just decided to recover my sofa in a similar pattern (only brown and white).


I was briefly excited at the space being referred to as a "recording" studio, but looks like they just used it for rehearsal.  cry.gif  Still, it would seem like kind of a waste not to record the rehearsals if you're in a studio, wouldn't it?  And with 5 months in a studio they must have noodled around some...

Same company posted this video too, with a thanks to Russell in the description, wonder if it's his shakey camerawork, or if he brought them in somehow (or maybe it's a different Russell??)?

The furnishings are endearing frivolous, and I'm certain that's the original neon sign. I once asked Alex where it was, she said it was 'in storage' but didn't have any more info. I really love it and am uncertain quite why : )

Absolutely fascinating! Loved seeing Russell's 'special chair' and his four guitars. Interesting that Legendary Girlfriend, Little Girl, Love is Blind and Love Life were rehearsed. Can't imagine rehearsal tapes seeing the light of day. Pulp were never the sort of band who released half-finished stuff, were they?

"The installation lasted 5 months." Past tense. How depressing. No more rehearsal room = no more rehearsals...

Those videos are both joyful and depressing. The chill out space looks like the interior of my head! But how sad is it to think that it's now over? I never had a chance to see the reformed Pulp this year and it just all seems so unsatisfactory the way it just petered out. I am finding the whole 'end of the affair' very confusing and somewhat anticlimactic, and that's not something you should be able to say about Pulp!

It only petered out if you didn't see them this summer; it was a pretty-well orchestrated tour climaxing with the Leeds/Reading tirumph and their own shows at Brixton. They left people wanting more which should be one of the main points to it all.

I suppose you're right. I just can't help but compare it to the Suede reunion which somehow seems more comprehensive. It's not really a complaint as I am just as annoyed at my inability to see them as I am the reunion.

Maybe if there were more of you or they were less lazy at travelling long distances...

If it is feasible and not a loss-maker it might yet happen at some stage.

yeah but in our defense (as an Australian) we only ever saw one tour of Pulp back in 1998..... its like they made up for all those lost years. Plus Jarvis seems such a regular visitor to our country - perhaps he likes touring here. And perhaps like Eamonn says - it was just a to test the water so to speak. America and the rest of Europe will come - ?

I have to say I'm surprised they didn't do any shows in Asia. Offers there tend to be pretty generous.

I agree with Eamonn though, I think the whole thing was kind of brilliantly orchestrated...seems like they've been intentionally ambiguous about whether there will be more shows, so you never know...

I also agree that this was all orchestrated very well. To be fair to them, I don't consider any of their gestures 'a massive fuck you'. They could have played it safe and played the UK festivals, but they toured the most obscure places in Eastern Europe and even took the show out to Australia! I think if anyone in the globe had really, desperately wanted to see them, then surely they could have? There was a huge amount of warning for all the gigs. Indeed, it's not like I've had much money to throw around this Summer, but we managed to budget and ended up seeing them four times (although Glastonbury was a very nice surprise!)

Is THAT what you meant by 'special chair' in your Brixton review??  Russell had a minivan with a vintage Eames school chair* mounted inside??  As much as I would love to imagine Russell traveling around exclusively in a van customized with gorgeous vintage furniture...

This mix of Italian and Danish '60s-'80s furniture seems so Pulp. I'd like to think it's what they would have chosen in the '90s when it was out of fashion. Now it's fashionable to the point of cliche and prices have rocketed.

Yes Twiggy, it is. I presume it must have at least some slightly orthopaedic qualities what with him using a cane these days and the chair having to go from gig to gig with him.

From that chair, Russell made his aeroplanes. I still have one of my setlists in Russaeroplane form. Must take a photo!
