I must start off by saying I normally disapprove when people just join forums in order to promote their own events but I was (shamefully) genuinely unaware this place existed until last week.......
Now, I've set up a brand new clubnight in north London called Lipgloss. This won't be the same old generic indie disco that plays the same songs every week, Lipgloss will play a mix of old, new, singles, b-sides, album tracks & interesting cover versions.
Which is basically an excuse to play O.U and P.T.A in a club, which is something i've unfortunately never had the pleasure of experiencing. You can tell by the name that there will be LOTS of Pulp played, but we'll also play the likes of Suede, Elastica, Mansun, Sleeper, Echobelly etc, modern (good) indie e.g. Art Brut, The Rakes, We Are Scientists, Miles Kane etc and the classics like Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Smiths......
Never heard PTA in a club, but all three Gift singles were regularly aired at the Star & Garter in Manchester. I'm sure I even got 'I Want You' out of them once, too.
Good luck with the night, though - not seen quite whereabouts it is in North London, but it'd be nice to try and time our next London visit around a time at which it's on!
Thanks folks, it's in Archway which is kinda between Camden and Holloway. If the first one is a success I'll let you know when the future dates are and hopefully see you there.
Yeah, Smile sounds about right. Possibly also Kissing Just For Practice but I couldn't be sure.
Once (and only once) did they actually run a Pulp night. 'Razzmatazz' was its name and quite fun it was too.
Finally, on leaving Brixton on the second night, a club was playing 'The Boss' and followed it up with a heap of obscurities that gradually got more and more familiar until Common People arrived. And then the Smiths. And then we caught the tube.
Oh yes, and I was at a rather good club in Leeds the other month and they* played Carnival Star by Venini!
I dunno, they don't seem to play that much else that's interesting. I'd also say that i've played sheffield sex city a lot when I DJ in Manchester. I'm having a break after 5 years though, maybe be back in November...
worth looking out for. SSC is a real eye opener for my friends who wouldn't otherwise listen to Pulp. Nick's hammering out a break beat and Jarv's almost rapping at times.

I'm just doing this for somewhere for the mis-shapes to hang out, listen to good music and make like-minded friends.
We don't want no trouble.....
Jill x
If you do end up doing this, and it's a success, I would love to make the trip to London just to hear some Pulp in a club!! (and possibly sing along to it...)
