I hate these articles that I more or less agree with smile

Not sure I could stay at home as I had a few pangs of regret only going to the first night at Brixton.  I can see a post-festival arena tour, but beyond that I don't see where the reunion can go without new recordings which would drive away much of the potential audience.

Suede's approach of mixing fan centric gigs with those with wider appeal would be the type of thing I would like to see Pulp doing.  From Separations onwards there is plenty of material to delve into, though mainly for devotees.

I agree with this article too. Pretty much sums up my initial thoughts on the reunion (although obviously put much better than I could!). I have always hated the idea of bands stagnating creatively and just trotting old the old stuff year in, year out. As much as I've LOVED seeing Pulp again this summer, and I know I will be gutted if this is the last we hear from Pulp, in my heart I feel it IS the right thing to do if there are no plans to take the band into new territory. The past must die for the future to be born!

I don't really agree with that article. The writer seems to have a chip of his shoulder.

Suede have shown that reunions can still be 'special' even after the initial 'honeymoon' press clippings. Suede started with the charity show and things progressed on from there. They didn't bother with a massive UK tour. They did, however, play live in Europe and Asia.

Brett Anderson has made it clear that the way to advance their return would be releasing an album that would stand next to the rest. If it simply not good enough, they won't bother releasing it. They'll just call it a day.

Pulp should follow suit.

I dont see how they couldnt go on. Jarvis had some social comments on both his solo records, maybe not about politics or classes, but about other matters in society. That's the path they should follow. From A to I is as good as any Pulp track. Or Big Julie. Or Disney Time. So bring on another Pulp record. even though the 90s are over, Jarvis still got a lot to say. The future is what we make of it. It's not set in stone. It's not only about the young or in this case i'm leaving to Mars right away. Someone like Jarvis has got to keep on making music or we'll be stuck with our old records. And I hate when "old" people say music was better before. Dont wanna become one.

I think that if Pulp continue then the Suede model may be the way to go.   However Brett Anderson is not releasing his new material as Suede, instead he is releasing another solo album and doing solo dates as well.

I'd like Pulp to do a few more dates before the end of the year, but don't expect them to continue into 2012 without plans to make a new record.

Reunion tours and greatest hits sets are great (though I am quite jealous I missed this one, being in China ATM) but I would prefer to hear them play new material to just the old songs (rarities or not) every time.

I get the impression that Mark is not really fussed about continuing the band (Feel free to correct) and that Russell must have been grabbed kicking and screaming to these shows (i'm sure it's not that clear cut but you get the point). I've no idea about Candida and I think it's been said that Nick would be up for continuing.

This leaves Jarv with a couple of options, call it a day as Pulp for another decade or evolve the line up.

Bring Leo in as gutar and then Pulp can continue?

"Left-pop band"?

Really?

That seems like a rather lazy and inaccurate assessment.

There surely must have been some improv and jamming during the recent rehearsals, even just as they were warming up for the day. If Pulp have mileage, I expect we'll hear about it very soon. The longer the silence after this tour, the less likely we'll see any new material.

Personally, I really doubt they'll record again. It's been bloody good though, hasn't it?

This is a good point actually. Athough I too seriously doubt there will ever be any more Pulp music, I remember reading in Stury's book that much of the songwriting started with musical ideas developed during improvising during band practice. I wonder if any of that did go on during the reunion rehearsals!
