Just been in Smiths today and really wanted to buy NME with Jarvis on the cover, but I just couldn't justify paying £2.40 for a two page spread. Anyone buying it weekly is paying £9.60 a month! Most monthly magazines are about 4-5 pound.
That's two weeks in a row JC has been on the cover and two weeks in a row I would have snapped it up at £1.50 or less. Why can't they see this?
Radio Times is £1.20 I think and about the same page count and quality.
I know this is not strictly Pulp related but wanted to vent!
It's not the only reason NME is failing. It's usually full of crap! There was a time when I would buy it every week but these days I find it rather annoying and hate provoking. I visit their website most days just to make sure I haven't missed anything but they seem to be way behind most other music outlets with their news (unless it concerns the endless and tirless stream of raw sewage that comes from the mouths of the Gallegher brothers every time they have some old recycled rags to sell)
Because they're always trumpeting new talent they seem to review an album then never mention that band again. I usually ignore reviews of people I've never heard of shamefully.
Of course the main reason they're failing is the Internet.
