hahah i know what you mean about the different sets! I saw Radiohead in Victoria Park 3 years ago on the first of two nights. They played a set with more album tracks/rarities etc. and next night did a more standard set. Pulp don't strike me as that kind of band, but I'm seeing them tonight and I'd be gutted if tomorrow night was the one where all the great songs from the Le Bikini encore and others such as Like A Friend etc. turned up. mind you this is my third time this summer so i'm just glad to be seeing them again..
where the hell was Sheffield: Sex City though?! :P .....and I've given up hope of hearing David's Last Summer haha
you already saw Like a friend at Glastonbury you GREEDY BOY
and yeah that's a point, out of all the songs on that encore list picture uploaded long ago, sheffield:sex city is the only one yet to be played, COULD IT BE?!?!? (though come on now, DLS is a much better use of that time)
i can imagine it now..
"for now, this is indeed pulp's last summer, but this song isn't about pulp's last summer... it's about david's..." *BAO BANAO BAO ba BAO*
will suck if one night gets the bogstandard set and the other gets the cool rarities. we all know the real fans got tickets for the 31st and should get the good set ;)
I expect this but pessimistically expect tonight will be the festival set. I know this was the one many of us, self included, got on the pre-sale, but whenever a band does multiple nights I always seem to miss the best night. Having seen/heard the festival set at Hyde Park I am selfishly hoping for something a bit different. Razzmatazz as a bare minimum.
sorry Pip - they did indeed play rarities including the majority of my 'wishlist' honestly holding back the tears of joy when they started playing wickerman! (despite the people around mes somewhat bewildered faces) and countdown, OU and razzmatazz! still in shock and even managed to get a setlist. Such an amazing night and GREAT setlist. With Party hard and Sheffield sex city on the encore section with misshapes and razzmatazz I have high hopes for tomorrow too!
Hi Jazza, I had three from my wish list too - Countdown, Razzmatazz and O.U. - couldn't believe it! Are you able to upload a photo of the setlist? I'd love to print off a copy. Lucky you getting that! What a great night and another to come tomorrow!!!
Just back-what a set list-what a night! If I was downstairs I think it would be up there withthe top 5 of all my gigs. Unfortunately most people upstairs seemed more occupied with their iphones checking the football transfers(really) when the lesser known songs(for the common people)were played. Just loved it! Don't have a ticket for tomorrow but can it be bettered?
That was fun wasn't it! Though when he did the introductory speech to Bad Cover Version I really, really, really wanted to let myself believe he was talking about Seconds. Not to be... saw whoever got the Setlist - the main thing I saw on it that got missed out (probably to make room for Underwear) was Sheffield Sex City, so maybe tomorrow!

Probably not. Well unless they throw in My Legendary Girlfriend, Dishes and Live Bed Show. Was right in middle, probably between 4 and 12 people from front depending on movement. Best Pulp gig I have been to since Garage in around 1993. Almost did every single from Countdown through to Hardcore, and The Wickerman was totally unexpected. Only puzzle is just one song from This Is Hardcore. Still hoping they play that album live in its entirety.
Don't have ticket for tomorrow, but not sure I could do that again...

Great setlist. Two firsts for me Countdown and O.U and it was great to hear Have You Seen Her Lately and Razzmatazz. My only change would have been to drop Wickerman and include Pink Glove and Joyriders. I love it how Jarvis approaches all the songs with so much enthusiasm these days. 1998 - 2002 it sometimes seemed like he was going through the motions, especially with Common People. Tonight was definitely up there as one of the best gigs I've been too.
The crowd were a lot better than at Hyde Park - much more animated, although it might have been because I was nearer the front. I was standing near a really tall girl. A couple of times during Underwear Jarvis pointed at me but I am guessing it was probably the tall girl : (
Incidentally Jazza, did they drop anything from the setlist to make way for Underwear?

Incredible... Who'd ever really expected Wickerman? And Countdown so very early on - I nearly split open. I wonder what was dropped for Underwear.
When he said that it wasn't "only" going to be B-sides and rarities, the possibility of a trawl through the catalogue seemed in the offing and that was very exciting... even paying lip-service to Silence. Have You Seen Her Lately, wow.
However, in response to speculation about their future post-2011, the fact that Countdown was as archival as they got bodes well... any more of the older stuff would have felt like a goodbye. This didn't.
Sure, there are a couple more gigs, but I can't see tomorrow being terribly different to tonight, and I imagine Ireland will be more akin to the Wireless set. I don't think we've seen the last of them.
It was great. I probably was slightly further back than Argee though not much. I was towards the right of the stage. Most of the people in front of me were dancing and jumping and the people around me. Not static or getting in the way like at Hyde Park. I wasn't close enough to get Jarvis's sweets or drinks.

...yeah, it was a little low-key up there. Everyone sat down during Countdown, OU and Wickerman. I was at the Academy recently for Suede's Dog Man Star play-through, and that was much, much more lively in the circle.
Ugh!! Work blocks most ticketing websites, so I'm always too late to be standing! Still, lucky to be there seating or otherwise.
Just missed out on drinks myself in 2nd row but also got Russells attention with a thumbs up (couldn't think of anything else to do) and he smiled at me which was pretty cool
screw those who got them to play underwear instead of sheffield sex city! bunch of us were calling for it and to hear it was on the setlist and skipped?!?!

Mind you, they were pretty tight on time as it was and didn't stay off-stage very long before the encores... could Underwear and Sex City really be a straight swap when one is nearly twice as long as t'other?
(I prefer to believe not, as Sex City would have been incredible... would the rest of the band have caved in so easily had it been such an epic facing the chop?)

Well that was enjoyable wasn't it
I really expected them to play almost the same setlist as Hyde Park but as Jazza and others have mentioned they decided to throw in some rarities, wow I wasn't expecting that. I was on the barrier to the right of the stage, the ringing in my ears is telling me I was quite close to the speakers. Jarivs really was on top form and so were the rest of them for that matter, the setlist was a really nice mix and i think the crowd were pretty decent as well. Feeling a little hyper atm
The only problem now is because I'm currently poor and i expected them to play the same setlist as Hyde Park on both nights I only bought a ticket for the Wednesday. But after that set I just have a feeling they might throw in some other surprises on the 2nd night so now being poor is not important I NEED a ticket! I've replied to every reasonable add on Gumtree so hopefully someone will relpy to me, if anyone has a spare standing or 2 on here let me know please. I hope emails are fine on here davejnoel at gmail.com
I think on reflection the above is right that Live Bed Show is what was actually skipped; SSS was part of a list of what looked like a 4-song encore, maybe just ran out of time with all the banter.
