You'll be fine. I go to loads of gigs on my own - have even flown out to Dublin alone for one once. Most times you end up talking to someone there. I prefer going on my own to the hassle of dragging a friend along who is not as into the band as you, and then you have to worry about them being ok, and if they don't mind you leaving them near the back so you can go and get crushed in the excitement at the front.
The tube station at Brixton is just a short walk away from the venue, and it's easy to find. It'll be busy with lots of people heading back to the tube on the way out, so v unlikely you'll get lost or run into any trouble.
I'm going to the 1st Sept gig; am also a young(ish) woman going on my own. I'm pretty new to gig-going generally, let alone on my own but I figured it'll be cool once I'm in the venue 'cause I can try and get near the front without worrying where friends are etc. (as mentioned by anet). Nonetheless, like you, I'm a tad apprehensive about getting away and home on my own. I'm staying in Shoreditch so will be getting a bus up there direct from Brixton. I'm thinking London will probably be pretty busy still at that time and it's not like I'm going out to the suburbs so should be ok.
If you want to meet up with another loner, do say and we could keep each other company!
I have 2 standing tickets for the Brixton Academy gig on 31st August and I would like to swap them for seated tickets *for the same night* if possible. I'm guessing SOMEONE out there really wanted standing tickets but they'd sold out so could only get seated ones upstairs at Brixton. Well, here's your chance.
I'm only interested in a straight swap, in person, in London. Preferably before the day itself, please. PM me if you're interested.
Fanks n' that!
*edit* - meant to say, I want to swap for seated tickets for Weds night, not Thurs 1st Sept.

Just wondering if anyone knows what time gigs normally finish at Brixton - I'm guessing about 11 since doors open at 7? Will I be alright getting the tube and stuff as a young lady on my own at this time of night
Little bit worried because I don't know my way around and I know Brixton has a bit of a reputation...
The tube isn't so scary at that time really, but if you are worried you could do worse than meeting up with the crew beforehand (http://baritalia.activeboard.com/t43819107/31st-august-brixton-meetup/)... I'm sure someone will be heading in your general direction afterwards and would be happy to travel with you.
Cheers. I would definitely be up for meeting up with others...I'm going on the second date though, doesn't seem to be much planned meet up wise so far? I'm still trying to sort out where I'm staying but I think it will be at some halls of residence place in Pimlico.
I'm coming down from the Midlands. I wouldn't normally consider going to a gig so far afield on my own but it's my first (and possibly last) chance to see Pulp so I can't miss it!
First off, Hi folks - new to posting on the forums here, but was looking to see if there were any planned meetups for the second night. I don't often go in for that sort of thing, but for Pulp I may make an exception; and it would at least be nice to know if something was happening or not??
My sister and I are also coming down from the Midlands (Rugby specifically) on the second date, but rather than staying over we'll likely be getting a train back after the gig - if not all the way then at least some of the way home. If anyone wants folks to travel/walk/etc with we'll be happy to accompany! The only possible issue going there, is that we plan to go pretty early on if we can - we ended up buying etickets off someone else (which I've never done before) so there's some slight paranoia about them working properly - so given that, we're planning to try and be there as early as possible to make sure that if they don't work we can find *shudder* a tout.
I've only been to Brixton once myself, but it was absolutely fine coming out and walking around. No problems at all, and especially with the crowd milling around it's a generally good atmosphere. The gig I went to back then finished at just after 10.30 - so I'm assuming that's the standard shutting down time for the venue. It's kind of good for me, 'cause it means I'm more likely to make a train that gets me closer to home in time without missing any of the set - but if they end up playing longer, there's no way I'm leaving early! I'll sleep in the station if I have to!
Thanks everyone, I'm not so worried about being on my own anymore, although it would be more fun if I wasn't!
LadyCoxy- Sounds good, we will have to make plans. :)
SoundOfConfusion- I guess I will be heading back in the same general direction as you afterwards, but I live in Shrewsbury so I don't think there's much hope of me getting a train home at the time of night. Sleeping in the station would certainly save me a few quid! I think I might be able to get back to Birmingham but I don't really want to hang around New Street on my todd. Still looking into cheap hotels at the moment.
Don't worry about your etickets, they're used quite widely now I think.
Woohoo I've found a face value ticket for the gig on the 1st, I'll be at both, hurrah!!! If they play exactly the same set both nights I am gonna be annoyed. But still, it'll be amazing regardless. Be a bit weird as I'm going to the second gig by myself, never been to a gig by myself in London!
I have one ticket for sale for Thursday 1st - physical ticket, can hand over in Central London for cash. I'd like what I paid for it (face value and booking fee), please PM me if interested.

Hi team. Anyone been to gigs at the O2 Brixton and know what they're like about photography? I've only been to Islington and I know most of the staff so it's not an issue... the venue page on TicketWeb says "General Policies: No video or recording devices allowed No food or drink to be taken into the venue". Well, my compact camera does have a video mode, technically, but then so does my phone if we're being pedantic about it... Don't want to flash my way through the set or anything antisocial but would be nice to get some souvenirs of the night(s) out.

Fine with cameras and phones, just don't take an umbrella. They took my wife's off her when she went in for Morrissey concert.

Cool thanks.
For two years, until about May, I used a walking stick. Truth be told, I'm wondering if I might need it on Thursday if I stand up and jump up and down all night on Wednesday - matter of knowing one's limits but I've gone for stalls tickets anyway.
But to get to the point: the number of times people at security points / venues have asked me if I need it... No, I just think it looks natty, obviously it's entirely decorative. Yes, I need it.
So it does seem these are the last pulp gigs then? Of course lets not count electric picnic as it's a festival. It is a bit annoying though, I was disappointed Blur did t in the park after Hyde Park. But oh well.
I hope to hear... Happy Endings (of course) His n Hers Your Sisters Clothes Countdown Trees Mis Shapes Inside Susan The Fear Party Hard Help The Aged
We already know all of different class will be covered over the 2 nights (maybe not monday morning, we'll see)
what im hoping to hear (but probably won't) include the boss, death II, countdown, razzmatazz, lyndhurst grove, mile end, OU, Anorexic beauty, glory days and of course wickerman. I am probably being ridiculously hopeful and unrealistic but to be honest if they so much as come on stage I'm happy :)

Beginning to regret just going to the first night now as I fear one night will be the festival set and the other like Le Bikini 2nd set.
I'd settle for the Glastonbury set with My Legendary Girlfriend
will suck if one night gets the bogstandard set and the other gets the cool rarities. we all know the real fans got tickets for the 31st and should get the good set ;)
