Emily sort-of hinted on Lauren Laverne's show the other week for them being on the Park on Saturday, and now this

From another forum....

I'm hearing strong whispers that it pulp or at least jarvis on saturday. Third hand, but someone at pulps label said so apparently at 9.30pm. That seems later than the advertised slot, but may be logical if big crowds expected as headliners will be taking the stage. (interestingly my predictive text on phone just inserted eavis instead of jarvis.. perhaps a prediction he will do happy birthday again!)

This is looking more and more likely.

Also, in the run up to the Special Guests slot is Graham Coxon, The Walkmen and Tame Impala so plenty of good bands to watch whilst getting a good spot ready. Pulp or not I think I wouldve been at the Park for those three acts beforehand.

I'm half expecting it now. Definately going to go in good time to check it out. Only thing is, if it's not Pulp I will miss Morrissey and be very upset about that!

Don't worry Weed, the rumours suggest it'll be the Saturday. On Lauren Laverne's show, Emily said the "potential headliner" act was booked for the Saturday. Emily then said she was going to reel off some names and judge her reaction, she reeled off some names and finished with Pulp, putting emphasis on it, there was an awkward pause and some giggling and Emily muttered something about health and safety issues.

Hmm, Jarvis isn't mentioned as presenting the Sunday Service from Glasto this year in the official press release, seems like every other 6Music DJ is there!

Jarvis does not use Twitter (or Facebook). He said this matter of factly (in passing almost, so highly unlikely that he was pretending/''lying'') to one of his interviewees on his show a few weeks ago.

i doubt he would have said anything anyway otherwise it would soon become common knowledge over the internet. I reckon if Pulp do play at glastonbury it will be kept secret right until the end

Apparently, the event organisers are having a meeting tomorrow night, confirming what's happening and who's playing and where.

I have asked to be informed as if Pulp are playing at Glasto.

I have family who are marshalling there, so I have asked the question for us :)

Whence I find out, I'll advise!

General consensus seems to be IF they are playing it'll be the Saturday on the Park.

There's three good acts on before the Special Guests slot so that would be perfect really, I'd barely need to change plans.

Just double-checked and Jarvis definitely isn't doing the Sunday Service from Glasto, unlike last year. This could mean he's wanting to distance himself from the festival with Pulp not playing, or because they've fallen out over money. BUT, on the other hand, whenever he's playing live with Pulp, he doesn't do the show that weekend. So who knows?!

I just don't understand the point of a secret Pulp performance at Glastonbury. What is the benefit to the band? They aren't promoting an album and they already have a packed schedule. What is the benefit to Glasto? Tickets are already sold out.

Because it makes them look good that they can get great acts to play on the sly. They had half of Radiohead last year playing secretly. I'd like to think Pulp would do it because it has a special place in their hearts.

Okay...apparently my source in fact does not have a clue and are merely playing with my curiosity!!! Think they have been getting tired of my bugging them for info. Sorry guys. In light of the line-up info though, those special guest slots seem pretty telling to me...especially as Jarvis isn't doing his Sunday Service (unless he just wants it off to attend the festival??).

The Saturday special guest slot is listed as having zero time between Tama Impala and themselves, which would seem to make Pulp a bit less likely since they'd have a stage setup :( Might make a low key acoustic set more likely, or possibly a Jay Z MC set. Still nothing to say they wont play the Friday.

Actually, scratch that. There's zero minutes between Coxon and The Walkmen too; and there's no way Tama Impala will play for 90 minutes.

If they do play on the park stage then the whole production will have to be scaled back. Ie- won't take too long to set up!

He did a talk at Meltdown last night. He was asked about Pulp and Radiohead and said he wasn't allowed to say. In Glastonbury terms, this means "they're playing but we can't say". For Pulp he said he'd get into trouble with Emily, which means they're at the Park!

Maybe Radiohead are booked for 2013?

I'm gonna go to both of the Special Guest Park slots...I'd be very upset if Radiohead played outside of that.

Also, I would be wary of missing Friday on the Park expecting Pulp to be on the Saturday....

Apparently, Eavis let slip at the South Bank centre last Monday that Pulp are to be one of the special guests on the Park stage. I'm yet to find a source but it's looking more and more likely.

He was asked about them playing and said he wouldn't be drawn on it, because earlier he'd said Emily had warned him not to be saying too much. But he did say outright that Stevie Nicks wasn't playing. The general rule with Eavis seems to be if he doesn't deny someone's playing, then they probably are. Someone else on eFestivals claimed earlier that they were with one of Pulp's roadies drinking and they also said they were there.

In a not too subtle hint, BBC's online Glastonbury coverage features this 'blast from the past':

Anyway, you have 3 days to watch it, if you haven't already seen it.

They showed that on tv last week and it was repeated on Mon, plus it's viewed as one of the most iconic performances so I'm not sure that makes too much difference.
Either way, it looks like the rumours are growing stronger.

nme.com reports:

Pulp returned to Glastonbury festival this evening (June 25) to play an epic set on The Park Stage, billed as 'special guests' at the event.

Frontman Jarvis Cocker made an impassioned speech about the festival during the show, which saw thousands of fans flock to the area at the most northern part of the Somerset site. It was the returning Britpop band's fourth appearance at Glastonbury, having played there in 1994, 1995 and 1998.

It was only fully revealed this morning that Pulp were due to play the bash, with Arctic Monkeys and The Killers some of the band names that had tongues wagging about potential star guests. Yesterday Radiohead played the 'special guests' slot at The Park.

When the band arrived on stage the sun was beating down on the site in stark contrast to the lashes of rain that had fallen there the previous day and night. "We couldn't think of anything to get you so we brought the sunshine," Cocker quipped before opener 'Do You Remember The First Time?' .

The singer later made reference to the news that police were hoping to test the sewage at the festival to find out which drugs, if any, the punters there had been indulging in. "They wanted to take samples from the toilets to see if there's drugs in there," he explained. "Firstly, who's going to take that sample? Secondly, fuck off. Everyone's in a field having a good time."

The band's setlist veered off course from their recent comeback shows, and included 'Acrylic Afternoons' and 'Live Bed Show', which the frontman explained the band hadn't played in a very long time. But they also found time for plenty of classics including 'Disco 2000', 'Sorted For E's And Wizz' and closer 'Common People'.

"Thanks Glastonbury, obviously it's been a very important place for us," the singer said near the end of the show. "When we played in '95 things took off for us and we went in a strange orbit around the earth, and now we're back home in one piece."

He added: "When we played in '95 I told a speech, 'If you want something to happen enough then it actually will.' If lanky misshapes like us could headline Glastonbury anyone could do it. Although that sounds corny it's true, it's in all of us. This is what this festival is about, it's bigger than a festival, it's a feeling.

"This is our fourth Glastonbury, who knows, it would be nice to do five."

Too right it would! Two years to write, record and release a new album to headline Glasto '13!

I don't think Live Bed Show was in those leaked set-lists after the Toulouse gig so potentially hope for other songs that haven't been mentioned.
I was actually surprised that Live Bed Show was originally left-out of the summer setlists. It's always been a perennial live staple since Different Class, along with Sorted. I still think TIH should have a bit more representation - Help The Aged/Party Hard/The Fear...or seeing as it's the festival season, Sylvia would probably go down well.

I wonder did Russell play on Like A Friend. Tonight was its live debut I think? And did the amount of people who covered it on pulptube make the band take it seriously as a choice for playing live?
Of course it was on the American edition of TIH, featured on a soundtrack (albeit to a shit film) and is the most viewed Pulp song on youtube after Common People, Babies and This Is Hardcore (Disco 2000 for some reason has only been up on youtube since last month).

LIKE A FRIEND? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?

My favorite. Why didn't they play it at Primavera?

It was probably the most popular Pulp song in America until Pitchfork listed "Common People" as #2 on their list of the top 90's songs last year. Surely they gotta play here and bring that one out.

I saw Pulp! Just got back to my tent and not much charge on my iPhone so will tell you more on Monday! Yes..! They did play 'like a friend' jarvis said "for the first & last time ever!" there were BBC 6 Music roadies onstage when they were setting up so I reckon they recorded it! Glad they mixed up the set! Massive crowd... Jarvis brought frizbees that he threw into the crowd! He said he stole the idea from derren brown! Just before 'common people' he read out his speech from glast 1995 "if a lanky get like me can do it..." and added a few more words of wisdom! That's all I can remember ATM! (time to go to sleep!) I'll write more on Monday when I get home if anyone is interested?!!

Just read back over a couple of previous posts... No RS not play on Like A Friend. Jarvis played guitar. They did it after sorted for es and wizz and said that the first time they ever played sorted was here so here's something that they were playing for the first time again! It took them a while to start the song because they didn't seem too confident with it!! In jarvis' words, "ok, here we go.. Like a friend...(laughs) I'm shitting myself!"
