I'm not talking about "It" or the Fire years, I mean before that. I know most people on here would like a "We Love Life" deluxe edition but I think we've had our money's worth with the other three and would find an "Early Years" compilation more appealing.
The Peel session songs, "What Do You Say?" and "Sickly Grin" are good enough but there are others from this period that must be worthy of a release. I've heard "How Could You Leave Me?", "You've Got a Face" and "I Scrubbed the Crabs That Killed Sheffield", and they're pretty good from what I remember but I'd definitely love to hear some of the other stuff i.e. "Barefoot in the Park", "Why Live", "Heat of the Day"... What does everyone else think?

But yeah, the 'Rotherham Demo' from April 1982 which contains four unreleased songs ('How Could You Leave Me?', 'Barefoot In The Park', 'Why Live?' and 'Teen Angst)' and the 'Spice Demo' from August of the same year which gave birth to 'Sink or Swim' and 'The Heat of the Day' remain the holy grail of Pulp unheard studio-recorded songs. Along with the 1999/2000 unreleased pre-We Love Life material.
This was all pre-Fire and Red Rhino. So who would own the copyright of these recordings should they still exist? And if they were ever to be released who would put them out?

Heard where? Pray tell!
http://www.mark-sturdy.co.uk/pulp/launch.html I was there.
From what I can remember, "How Could You Leave Me?" sounded like a jazz song and the chorus from "I Scrubbed the Crabs That Killed Sheffield" stuck in my head for ages afterwards - "Wo-ho-ho-ho-ho I scrubbed, I scrubbed, I scrubbed the crabs that killed SheffielD-ah!"
Unfortunately, I cannot remember anything else about those songs...
Ahhhh the book launch party - the night that Nick Banks told me I was nuts for paying £100 quid for the Babies FON demo ! Was a fantastic night in the Washington that, would love to have another ! How Could You Leave Me was fairly chilled out for what I can remember - Crabs is very Punk (the full song) - cant really rememberYouve Got A Face. Hahaha the looks of a few people that night when Cuckoo was played - quality!
Id be all for an "early years" album, just cant see it happening though

I wouldn't go that far! As I say, they're kind of interesting, quite nice in places, but if you're expecting works of Godlike genius you'd be disappointed. They're just low-budget recordings by a good sixth form band.

They'll be owned by the band themselves (or I guess Jarvis, really). Tony Perrin might have some claim on the Spice demo as he was in the picutre by then. As for who'd put them out, the band could probably license to whoever they wanted if they were so inclined (as with Sickly Grin appearing on the Caf single).

Hi this is my first post. Been reading the forum for a while but just got round to joining. I've only heard the early stuff from the Peel session and What Do You Say?, but judging by these I would love to hear an early years album, they certainly resemble classic Pulp much more than the songs on It. It's such a shame they never managed to release a proper album at the time, they may have reached fame a lot sooner

I meant in terms of unreleased material. Unlike yourself I've not heard them so can't make any judgement on their quality.
Good point about the Caff release though. With the reunion this is the year for any vaguely sellable Pulp rarities to be thrown out there so here's hoping.
