In Stradbally, a village in the Irish midlands, weekend Sep 2nd-4th.
It looks like they will close the festival on the last night. Arcade Fire headlining aswell.
I'm delighted they are doing this, I think it fits Pulp well. Attracts an older crowd with a largely, er without the risk of sounding a snob, more cultured taste in music than the generic yoof-orientated festivals and like Glasto and Latitude isn't the complete commercial-fests that so many now are.

Roxy Music headlined last year. Sex Pistols, Franz Ferdinand and I think New Order all have in the last few years. I think that would sit better with them than playing alongside the likes of Foo Fighters or fucking Kasabian. I do wonder how they'll fare at T In The Park where the average attendee was still in nappies when Pulp were at their most popular.

Jarvis played it in 2007 and apparently went down very well. I didn't make it, didn't have the money. It's an expensive enough festival, 240 for the weekend camping. I think they are re-introducing day tickets this year though for a hundred euro or so. Anyone gonna go?

Hi Eamonn

I was there in 2007. It was a bit extravagant to shell out 220 or so just to see Jarvis but he was worth it! The crowd did love it. If I remember correctly the tent kind of filled up as the set went on because I got quite near the front. He finished up with a cover of the Boys Are Back in Town.

Obviously I'd love to go to this but I'm concerned about the expense these days. They only have day tickets for the Sunday which are like 99 and *rumour* has it that Pulp will be closing the festival on Sunday night. I don't think this will sell out. At 240 a pop for the weekend no chance. It hasn't sold out for the last 2 years. You could get tickets on the day.

I only saw Pulp the once in 1996 at The Point. I couldn't get in to the Ambassador in 2002 as I was underage and the event was linked to Guinness or something so they wouldn't even let me in with an adult! Crazy! I would love to go to this just for Pulp and to see that line up again with Russell. My sentiments are like yours based on what you have said in some posts - much as I love TIH and WLL, I really missed that quirky pop element which I felt left when Russell left but at the same time I liked that they did move to a different place and didn't keep reproducing the same old thing or writing about the same old thing. That's always a brave step. So yeah that's a long way of saying it would be great to see the whole group again like it was 1995/6 all over again smile.gif Are you going yourself or going to any of the other festivals in Europe?

Hi Jean. Yeah, I remember your review on here after seeing Jarvis in '07. Thank feck I'm not the only Irish person slightly obsessed with them :)
I find it strange that you got in to see them in the Point in '96 but five years later on the WLL tour you weren't old enough?! I suppose a lot of young teens made up their audience in the mid-90s. The Ambassador gig in Dec '01 was my first gig. I was lucky I got in, I'd just turned 17. I went with my older sister who was asked for ID. Luckily I wasn't.

I'm going to Primavera, and possibly this. Will be nice to see potentially the first and last shows of the reunion festival tour. Only thing putting me off not getting a ticket, the price aside, is the fact that a lot of the line-up at Electric Picnic is similar to Primavera. Would love to see Portishead, Grinderman, Elbow, Anna Calvi for example, added. Nice that there is the option to buy the day ticket though, so we will see.

Eamonn, it often feels like you're the only fan in Ireland but still judging by the reception Jarvis got in '07 he has got a fair few fans here and there were people shouting for Pulp songs in '07 and all so we won't be on our own at EP wink.gif

Ah yes it was '01 not '02. Yeah, I was 15 in 2001 and was told I couldn't get in even with an adult as it was strictly over 18s only because it was part of Witness and was associated with the promotion of Guinness or something like that! I must point out also that I looked very young for my age back then. I probably looked about 12 so maybe that explains it. I am insanely jealous now that you got in though you were under 18 smile.gif

So yeah I was 9 (going on 10) when I saw them in 1996 and saw plenty of drunk and high people so it was incredibly silly to be turned away aged 15 but there you go!

Well enjoy the festivals and I do intend on going to Electric Picnic but not sure whether to jump the gun and get a weekend ticket or hold out and see will Pulp be on the Sunday. Either way I know I'll have to go. Couldn't miss this. All the best, have a great time.

Just got back from this. I got a day ticket as I really only wanted to see Pulp. Not sure if it was broadcast. Maybe on 2FM anyone?

Just a quick post to say it was great to see Pulp again after all these years. I just wish I had made it to Brixton as it would've been great to see them on their own show and I would've loved to have heard Countdown. Setlist tonight was quite like all the festival ones.

DYRTFT?, Monday Morning, Razzmatazz, Something Changed, Disco 2000, (after this I've lost order), Sorted, I Spy, Babies, Feeling, Underwear, This is Hardcore, Sunrise, Mis Shapes, Bar Italia, Common People

Jarvis mentioned it being the last show of the tour andbefore Common People said this might be the last time you ever see us playing this song together or something to that effect. Really wouldn't be sure whether they're going to do anything more.

While I *loved* Pulp's performance (the dramatic intro and all Only Pulp would do an intro like it) I was disappointed with the audience. Now I probably was a little bit far back but I felt like I was the only one singing and dancing to Razzmatazz and pretty much all of the songs. The only ones people around me got into the mood for were DYRTFT? (to a certain extent), Disco 2000 (very much so), Mis Shapes (to an extent), Babies (to an extent), Common People (very much so). I even heard some people say after 'Disco 2000' - 'we can go now they've done that'. Very shallow but I know that's the way it is at festivals. Just would've preferred their own show not a festival but then I guess I should've gone to Brixton (I had bought EP ticket already though...). Anyway just happy I got to see them once more and so happy to see Russell again.

Just in aswell! Jean you should have said, could have met-up! Or maybe we did without knowing. Your setlist looks spot-on.

Kind of agree on the lack of people going wild to anything except the obvious ones which, as you say, is frustrating if understandable. Although the instrumental part of Sunrise got people moving too. I was halfway back in line with the camera gantry and mixing desk, the worst part was people constantly moving past you. Compared to Primavera, which I can't believe was the start of all this three months ago, the crowd were far more receptive to every song played in Barcelona. Spanish and Greek festivals are the best I've been at for crowd participation (I imagine Latin America is similar).

However, the mass hands swaying during Bar Italia was very impressive and Jarvis commented after the song that it was the best they'd seen on tour - even Russell gave the crowd applause for it!

As for the group, Jarvis was on fine form, quoting Oscar Wilde at various points (one of the campsites is named after the great man). He also made reference to the fact that he had played the festival before, though it was four, not two years ago as he said (must have been mixing-up the 'Jarvis' and 'Further Complications' tours!) and the visuals were the best I've seen on the tour. I Spy especially worked well with Jarvis going into the crowd and the screen flashing back to Candida's keyboard intermittently.

Jarvis did leave the future open-ended after Common People, ''This could be the last time all of us are on a stage together''....Maybe we'll see you sometime soon'' was the optimisitic part but I would say at best they still have to discuss it seriously, at worst, that's that. Steve and Nick were very appreciative of the crowd coming off, Candida looked a bit too shy to applaud them, can't remember what Mark did, Russell (wearing a natty Greek sailor's cap but under the weather according to Jarvis) walked off without much fuss. No Hawley, which was a wee bit disappointing.

The tour de force that was Common People and playing it at the end probably won-over many casual observers who were wavering during certain songs.

Really enjoyed it overall, as did the large group I was with, who seemed to be in agreement that it was the highlight of the weekend (even better than Arcarde Fire who headlined last night).

I think I'm all-Pulped out for now, live anyway...maybe it's best they go on another ''hiatus''! Now I've to sleep cos I've a job interview in a few hours. Which I didn't want to think about but had no option but to do so during Jarvis' intro to Monday Morning....

...so what was Jarvis' intro to Monday Morning??

His intro to Monday Morning was about not wanting to go to work or school but you're better to face these things head on. Actually Im starting a new job tomorrow so it got me thinking too Eamonn (Good luck btw). It got me thinking I must buy a Monday Millions ticket today so I dont have to work I need my voice for work but I'm as hoarse today! I didn't realise you were going but as you say though we probably met without knowing it!

Yeah I saw Russell applauding but you're right he was gone off the stage pretty quickly at the end. I was worried at the start as I couldn't see Russell and I thought no that's Leo with the cap (I was quite a bit back and I'm not tall so tend to be dwarfed at these things) but then I realised it was indeed Russell.

Spot on about Jarvis saying he was there 2 years ago when it was 4 years ago. Just a pity to have to tone down my singing and to have to not sing at all to This is Hardcore and Sunrise. Maybe closer to the front it was different I dunno. I get the impression though that even up at the front you were probably going to have a lot of people who weren't participating. Ah well. Still Pulp's performance was great. Really love that intro. I hadn't seen that before as I've been out of the loop and haven't been following the tour threads on here and they cut it out of the Reading footage.

I feel it would be selfish to say I'd like them to continue on because that would be just so I'd get to see them at their own gig when really that opportunity was there already with Brixton (if money was no object). I just wouldn't be too keen on festivals. I don't know if I'd want new material to be honest because if the impulse to create together wasn't there then it's best perhaps not to pursue that avenue. But as reunion tours go I like the way they did it. No-one quite like them. Thanks Pulp.

Edit: Eamonn did you see the guy with the sign? written on the back I think it said 'shit, we missed mass' or something but I didn't get to see what was on the front, did you?

I know it's not big news and I didn't know what thread to put it in so just reporting it here that in the Daily Star newspaper on Friday they listed Pulp at Electric Picnic as one of the highlight gigs of 2011 in Ireland. Actually they said the performance of Common People alone made it one of the highlights. Nice to see Pulp in there. Wonder what 2012 will bring

Edit: so as not to add a new post! Sorry about that Andy. Yep, in retrospect it was a bit dozy to put the post in this thread. If I delete mine and you delete yours will the thread go way back down the board maybe?

Serves me right for trying to find a thread to put the post in Sorry folks. Didn't mean it.
