895 Pulp - Lip Gloss (Was listening when they played this - most welcome) 667 Pulp - Something Changed 576 Pulp - Sorted for E's & Wizz
And I guess with at least Disco 2000, Do You Remember The First Time?, Babies and some other song to come.....
Some of the songs in the vicinity beggar belief. I mean Oasis Songbird at 575! WTF! That song is so shite, even Oasis fans must cringe when they hear that.
And in a coup that once and for all destroys England's claim to collective good taste in music: #1 goes to The Killers' Mr. Brightside.
The list is pretty terrible in general. If you are going to claim your list represents 'the 1000 best songs of all time', you should probably have at least some passing familiarity with music before 1987.

Agree. To be honest I've never got on with Common People, they've done better.

While it's not my favourite song either, I appreciate Common People's place in pop music history. It has got to be one of the strangest, most subtly subversive and certainly one of the wittiest songs to ever crack the Top 10.
That Xfm list though... horrible. Most of those songs aren't even old enough to buy liquor.

I don't understand why Mr. Brightside always ranks so highly, it topped a couple of the songs of the decade rankings as well. To me it sounds like Beethoven's Ode to Joy and isn't really so awe-inspiring to deserve top ranking. I wouldn't even have it in my top ten Killers songs...
I think the list does have the predictable pre-1987 artists (i.e Beatles/Stones/Who/Bowie/T.Rex/Clash/Jam/Pistols/Joy Division/Smiths) and a few nice little surprises such as the Kinks getting four songs in there. The nature of these list is always that more recent songs make the grade
Most incredible omissions (IMHO) are The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. All have tracks that are worthy of top 100 status (certainly more so than Ian Brown). The Ramones only having Sheena is a Punk Rocker in the lower reaches is also puzzling.
But on the whole, one of the better lists I have seen from a radio station, any list with seven Pulp entries in it can't be that bad, I couldn't imagine that with any other radio station! Maybe BBC Radio 6 will do one some time which would be a little more definitive given its wider ranging playlist.
2010 is going to be the year when i stop reading this kinds of "best of/ top ten/hundred whatever of the year/decade.They always disappoints me with their boringness and predictability especially in the top of the list. Their really not about putting together the best songs, just the songs that fore some reason was playing on the radio all day long and maybe was number one on itunes.
