this is my first post on this forum (long time lurker) and I hope you can help me with some information.
Does anybody know what are the differences between the original Island release and this one ? Was the original release on heavyweight vinyl? Is the artwork the same or different, plain inserts instead printed, ...
Which release sound better?
I'm thinking of getting the Plain Vinyl release because the originals are a bit pricey.
Hope that someone has this LP and can help me with some info.

None in terms of tracks, maybe minor differences in artwork as it won't have Island markings.

No, in fact the original pressing was pretty poor. A lot of Island pressings were.

Same Artwork so I am told.
Which release sounds better?
The Plain one should be superior as it is on 180g vinyl and a better pressing (much like the original Different Class wasn't as good as the re-issue).
I am looking around for the Plain LP, but still not seen it for anything south of £40. I keep hoping to get sent to US in my job, so maybe I will get it in the US.
i've never actually seen the original, but the Plain release is a glossy gatefold, full bleed artwork/lyrics, and contains The Professional, Like a Friend, Laughing Boy and Tomorrow Never Lies on Side Four.
plus, a double album, so the sound on 180 g vinyl is pretty close to perfect.
The Plain reissue doesn't contain Like a Friend, sadly. These are the bonus tracks: Tomorrow Never Lies, Laughing Boy, The Professional, This Is Hardcore (End of the Line remix).

That's the same as the original LP then (except for Like a Friend).

What is wrong with the original vinyl release of Different Class?
It's OK (the full size interchangable covers are a definite plus), the sound's just slightly quiet and muffled. I think it's a combination of not-terribly-good-quality vinyl being used, and the fact that the album is slightly too long, at 50ish minutes, to sound good on 2 sides of vinyl (optimum length being something like 22mins per side).

That's funny, because I always thought my CD of Different Class sounds slightly quiet and muffled. I have to turn the volume up to get the full effect of the songs.
