Seems like there is a wealth of post-His 'N' Hers/Different Class live boots around, but I was wondering if anyone had any taped live shows around the Freaks era (or before)?
I would do almost anything to hear Fairground live!
I recall Pulp did Blue Girls live at the Flux gig (and I'd certainly appreciate a pointer as to how I'd get a hold of that, too) - but is it also true that tracks from Freaks and before never got an outing live once Pulp made it big?
I appreciate anything you've got, and thanks for reading!
Check the baritalia yahoo account (think the username is “baritalia2005“ password “pulp2005“ - also theres a baritalia2006 one) and there should be quite a few live songs from the 80s. I posted Heart Trouble there before, Blue Girls from Flux should be there too and lots more.
I Want You, Little Girl and Maureen (maybe one or two others) did get the occassional outing once Pulp hit the big time. Mostly the Hardcore era gigs throw up the odd old song.
Goodness me, that is an old one....not strictly a Pulp song though if I remember right.
True...Russell's old band I remember reading in Sturdy's book? The name escapes me right now. Apparently they played it for fun in a rehearsal, thought it sounded alright and decided to do it live.
Nope, not Russell's old band - it was originally a song by a Sheffield band called New Model Soldier who Russell was a big fan of. Russell bought the lyrics from their singer Dave Kurley (for a pound, I believe) and the band put them to new music.
Fairground and Maureen (and possibly Back in LA, I can't remember) all came from previous projects of Russell's though.

I think Russell's sister had a hand in writing Maureen. I can't be certain but I seem to remember her mentioning that to me once.'Fairground' is very Russell, that was inspired by him visiting a pub in North Yorks with stuffed deformed animals I believe.

The songs I remember cropping up on sets post 1995 were:
Blue Girls - 1999 Anorexic Beauty 1998 & 2001 I Want You- 1998 & 2002 She's Dead - Washington DC June 1998 My Legendary Girlfriend - 2002 Little Girl (With Blue Eyes) - 2002

I think they would play it as a tribute to Russell. Remember that the U.S. TiH shows were among the very first they played without him.
